The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year at IBM. I particularly enjoyed being part of a global team where I was provided the opportunity to interact with team members in lots of different countries. Adding to this there was a really strong intern community which added to the enjoyment.
I felt very valued by my colleagues and often received feedback from team members on projects that I worked on.
My manager frequently provided helpful feedback which enabled me to grow professionally. I will be leaving IBM with a new and improved skill set and most of that is down to the guidance from my manager.
I was normally busy at work but rarely too overwhelmed. Whenever I felt like I had too much on my plate I was able to talk through my tasks with my manager and prioritise accordingly.
I was given a lot of responsibility on my placement and I felt like I was trusted to carry out important tasks. It would have been good to have obtained slightly more client focused work but given the nature of my role that was quite difficult.
The skills I have developed during my placement will certainly help with my degree. Firstly, I now have a much clearer picture of how a big corporate organisation operates and the various processes in place to make the company run. I have also developed a variety of skills such as improved verbal communication / presentation skills and also my ability to work in a team to meet strategic objectives.
The Company
There was generally a positive vibe in the office with lots of chatting.
The placement was extremely well organised.
The company was really invested in ensuring personal growth. There were 4 quarterly reviews which were set up to review progress against goals that had been set. There are also lots of opportunities to under-go training courses.

Working from home
I would be happy to work for this company in the future.
The Culture
There was a really strong social scene. There are several sports teams set up and often there were intern drinks.
I lived at home so I didn't have a cost of living but working in London can be quite expensive travel wise.
There is a really good nightlife in London but it is quite expensive.
Yes, I attended the corporate Games and played for the IBM football team.
