    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement at GSK, I would recommend it to anyone - Never could I grasped so much experience in such a short time frame at this stage at my career without doing this placement with GSK. It's a welcoming workplace and I'd loved to return in my future.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued and treated well by my colleagues and everyone across GSK House, superb community and culture here. I can't thank everyone enough for being so warming to me and ensuring my transition in and out of the company was so smooth and so easy. Superb is all I can say.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was pretty good, I did feel that had a lot on their plate and it was difficult for them to manage multiple direct reports of theirs over the course of the year. But otherwise I had a decent amount of support when we had our 1:1's to get on track.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the beginning there was much less workload overall but by the end of my end of my placement I had the perfect amount of work that kept me on my toes and very busy every day until close of business. Great workload overall I would say once I fully moved into the role.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Fairly decent amount of responsibility, just as much as my colleagues at the end of the placement which was expected but I would've liked to be seen as identical to my peers by the end. Every role is different of course and some IP roles I know in the department replaced full-time working positions due to how useful and integral the industrial placement student became.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the IP scheme is slightly disjointed to my university studies but this is to be expected as degrees cover much wider aspects whereas many career roles focus on one subject. However I did get to delve into multiple areas to learn more about the impact of these in the real world.

The work culture is great and social media is full of positive stories about what happens at GSK. It's very impressive and it's very welcoming, calm and also fun for special, specific department events.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There are two different grad schemes that are exciting and are already available to be applied for, It's great that there are multiple offerings for future prospects for employment. GSK is great for this and the direct hire route is also possible if you don't want to be tied into a three year course.
