The Role
The people you meet here (team and fellow interns) are amazing. You learn a lot and feel like everyone is trying to help you instead of stabbing in the back. There are also a lot of training and support for the intern group.
I feel like at Citi (unlike in other American banks) the culture is very friendly and people value your opinion. Working in this industry it is very hard to find a spare minute, but if anyone find a spare minute they will go out of their way to help you.
Everyone in the team will give you support if you ask for it. Also, you are assigned a buddy before an internship, whom you can contact for simple questions.
Along with the help to your team, you need to manage your projects, training and team games. But the time flies really fast. You can always ask for extra work and that work is really making an impact, which makes your work valuable.
You are given responsibility from day 1. You meet many senior people in the bank and industry and they might give tasks to chase up on, spreadsheets to make, data to look over, presentations to make that are actually used for the clients meetings.
You develop here a lot of technical skills (modelling, Excel, Powerpoint) as well as soft skills (communication, presentation). Not coming from finance degree, I feel like I have developed a broad understanding of industry, allowing me to apply the knowledge and experience to my university.
The Company
Everyone is really friendly and will try to help/teach you. The intern class is composed of people from various background that have done incredible things in their lives, but in the same time are very humble. This creates a really family-like atmosphere that makes you want to hang around your colleagues from work even on the weekend.
The internship is very well organised. The HR team does everything to ensure that you will enjoy your summer. There is always someone who will help you with the direction, give you something to do (if you ask for it), or guide you.
Before the summer starts you get allocated two rotations and a buddy, so you can ask them about anything before your first day. During the internship, there are many networking events, speaker sessions and training hours that will allow you further develop your skills. You constantly develop and grow here and you know that people care about your learning progress.

If you do well during your internship, you can convert it into graduate position and then into an analyst position.
The Culture
The summer intern class is really close-knit and family like. You know you can rely on the people you just met. We actually hang out together during weekends and some evenings after work - if we have time.
London is quite expensive. The closer you are to the Canary Wharf the more expensive your accommodation will be. But if you live further you need to add the cost of travel to your expenses. There are many nice restaurants here that you can grab food from during lunch. If you go to the pub after work, expect a drink for £5-10.
There are a lot of bars here that you can hang out in after-work, and it only takes 15-20mins to go to other Central spots.
You will mainly spend time at the office, so there is little opportunity to do something extracurricular on the daily basis. But together with your interns group you can enjoy lunch together, coffee or just hanging out after work, which is great as this gives you opportunity to develop your network.
