The Role
It was quite challenging but I enjoyed having a routine and structure over my summer holidays
I was given relatively important work - so not just useless tasks. However, I did feel like the 'intern' on the desk.
It was made clear exactly what work I had to do and they made sure i was being checked up on regularly. Also it was always ensured that I had work to get on with.
Very busy, lots of tasks to do. Despite coming in around 6am there were things to do from that moment onwards.
Lots of independent work such as creating summaries, reading reports, shadowing members of the team.
I haven't returned to university yet however I know that this internship will have helped me to be disciplined, wake up early, keep to a strict time schedule, confidence in public speaking and meeting new people. Compared to university, I am learning how to manage time and a busy schedule a lot better.
The Company
The trading floor was relatively busy at most times, people were free to walk around and ask other people questions. Also, the world cup was shown on a screen.
Run-up to the internship was smooth and HR were very good at replying.
Training days were outsourced and quite useful. Throughout the internship there were speaker series and some more technical training.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Good company, lots of people, great networking opportunities - just make sure you find the right desk for you as they are all different.
The Culture
Interns were all quite sociable and we arranged weekend and post-work activities often.
Typical London prices. Canary Wharf based.
Bars were okay, never tried a club/don't know if there are any in C. Wharf.
None have been offered to me so far (halfway)
