The Role
I really enjoyed learning about the ins and outs of a nuclear power station. Specifically I enjoyed being able to apply my chemistry degree course to practical problems.
My colleagues encouraged me to express my ideas. And I felt I was given work important to the company.
Given the technical nature of the nuclear industry, I was given a lot of support by my manager, supervisor and other colleagues. I also felt I was given personal support by my colleagues, e.g. 1:1 meetings to check my progress.
If there was a bigger project, this would mean I was very busy. The times that I wasn't part of a project, I was not busy at all.
I was responsible for authoring an important project within chemistry. I was trusted to self manage my time, plan meetings for projects and plan networking events.
I think it will help me to better manage my time, and understant the context of chemistry applications in industry.
The Company
The open plan office space allows you to go up to people and ask them questions. Its a friendly atmosphere.
Overall well organised. Could have sorted out my main project earlier.
The company encouraged me to go to lectures, events and trips to further my development
I have applied for sponsorship and the guaduate scheme
The Culture
Yes I made friends with a good group of placement students
Reasonable cost
Not brilliant, but some good pubs.
There's sports societies to join, and a few other events throughout the years.
