The Role
I really enjoyed my placement. It was a good opportunity as it is very different from university. I experienced a lot of different things and was introduced to different people and different job roles that I could consider in the future. Everyone that I worked with were very welcoming and always happy to help which made the placement more enjoyable.
I felt very valued among my team and my business partners. I was given work from members of my team that showed me they trusted the work I was completing for them. I worked a lot with members of sales who valued the work that I would complete for them.
I was given a lot of support and guidance from my manager. We would have weekly one to one sessions where we discussed the work I was taking part in and if things could be improved. My manager also taught me some of the software that I use which really helped and was always there to support me when I had a question.
How busy I was could vary from day to day. On some days I would receive a lot of requests from my Business Partners to help them with certain reports. On other days it was quite quiet and I was able to work on things I had put to the side.
At the beginning I was learning about all the systems and processes but as I knew how things worked, I was given responsibility to carry out reports on my own. I was also given responsibility to work on a project. I enjoyed the increased levels of responsibility as I progressed through the role.
I did not study finance so the knowledge will not help towards my degree. However, the skills I learnt on the job such as Time Management and Presentation skills will help me a lot when I go back to university. I received a vast amount of training and was never without help.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was always very upbeat and positive. All members of the office got along with one another and there were never any problems. I enjoyed working in this environment as it made the role easier as I felt more relaxed when working. I would recommend this atmosphere.
The overall work placement was well organised. I enjoyed the structure and the learning development I experienced within the role. There were also many intern days that were very well organised and I learnt a lot on those days. I progressed from knowing nothing and now I am very capable of working on my own within the role.
We had many intern days that consisted of learning how to develop our presentation skills and also learn about ourselves and how we work through a system called insights. In the office there were many training opportunities to learn different skills and software to help in my role and maybe future career.

Future work employments are very appealing as the company has a good graduate scheme. The scheme is good as you learn about different functions of finance not just one. The company are also invested in keeping interns within the company when they are looking for jobs which is very appealing.
The Culture
Because of the location of the office there is not much to do around the area. We have been for team dinner and lunches but that is the extent of it. Fellow placement students are located around the country so it was hard to keep a social scene with them.
I lived at home during my placement. This was easy I was able to drive into work. There is a lot of public transport in the area which very helpful for travel. Socialising is not very expensive but as there is not much to do around the area it is hard to put a price on it.
In the area that I worked there is no nightlife at all. There is Brunel University close by but that is more for students so no work colleagues will attend this. Central London is about an half an hour train journey from the location where I worked. Overall there is no nightlife.
Every monday night there is a social football club where many people play football. Other than that I am unaware of any social activites outside of work. One day a year there is a MAD day where employees will go into stores around the country and set up displays for the products we sell.
