About You
I really enjoyed this insight and I think it provided the right balance between having the opportunity to undertake trainee-style work, going to events with the firm, and networking opportunities.
Both graduate recruitment and supervisors in my respective departments made me feel extremely valued and made a real effort to introduce me to many people throughout the firm.
Graduate recruitment in particular ensured that we all knew where we could access support if required, and that we had training sessions to ensure we were prepared to work at the firm.
I don't believe the skills developed will particularly assist in my degree studies, however, the training and networking opportunities provided will certainly be useful in future vacation schemes and working as a trainee at a law firm.
The Company
There were planned events every day and training opportunities throughout the duration of the scheme.
All departments were very willing to converse and ensure that we felt comfortable during the insight- further, the other vacation scheme attendees certainly helped to improve the general atmosphere.
The firm provided us with a personal branding session to mirror the type of personal development the firm takes pride in during the Compass programme in the training contact.
The insight did provide opportunity to carry out actual trainee style work, and the trainees were very easy to talk to provide an overview of the responsibilities you would have with a full time role.
It is difficult to fully appreciate a firm's culture in only 2 weeks, but it was clear that the firm placed an emphasis on their open-door policy and approachable nature.
I don't believe that the content of the days altered my views on my career path, but certainly cemented that this was the career I wanted to undertake.
Everything Else
I was paid adequately for this experience, and certainly in line with other law firms' pay.
There were many networking opportunities provided throughout the two weeks, both at partner and trainee level.
The networking events were well planned and provided a range of activities to do.
Speaking to the trainees it was clear what activities could be undertaken, although there was no specific training session aimed at this.
I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend, as I felt valued within the firm and I could certainly see myself working there.
