The Role
I really enjoyed my placement. It's been a great year and I've learnt loads. I've had the opportunity to build up my confidence at work, and acquired real life experience that will be invaluable when applying for further jobs and also going back to university. Would highly recommend it to everyone
Most of the time I felt really valued. They were all really supportive and provided help whenever I needed it, and went out of their way to help, particularly at the beginning when I was getting settled. They've been there to give advice and teach me new skills over the course of the last year.
A lot of support and guidance was given. Especially at the beginning, I was really well supported and they were good to watch over to check I was doing the right thing. Later on it was more dictated on what type of support I needed, and so I was able to become pretty independent.
Very busy. Not too busy but there was always so much that I could be doing. That being said, when I had uni deadlines, I was able to lighten my work load and focus on getting the deadlines met, and this flexibility was greatly appreciated over the course of the year.
As much as I wanted. At the beginning, when I was finding my feet, I was given very little responsibility, with the focus being on me getting settled. As I grew more confident however, I was able to become more responsibility and more independent, which was really good to help me develop.
A lot. I think I have picked up a lot of both practical skills but also more personal development along the way. Simple things as well as more technical things have been covered, that will help when I return back to uni next year, but also skills for later on in life.
The Company
Very friendly and supportive. tHe team was very chatty and we all went for tea breaks together, along the opportunity to get to know everyone and build up relationships with them all. Sometimes it was a bit too loud, however this was better than the alternative, and I've really enjoyed it
Generally well organised. The subcontract company wasn't always overly organised, however at work it all went smoothly and has been well organised, The application process was really smooth and clear, and objectives have been well set out and organised. As there are lots of us, it has generally been well set up.
I think a lot. You got as much as you gave, so if you invested in the job, you get a lot back, as is the case with a lot of companies. They have structures in place to ensure you develop over the course of the year which is good, and I've built up confidence.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Very appealing. I would really like to come back as soon as I can, however I'm not sure how feasible this will be without further study first. It's been a great year and I'd love to work here again, and hopefully I will be able to do so in the future.
The Culture
Generally yes. There were a lot of us so there was always something going on at the weekends if you wanted to. The company was also good at getting us to integrate at the beginning so you got to know everyone pretty well, which made it a fun atmosphere at work.
Reasonable. There's not that much to do around here but bigger towns are close enough that you can go out elsewhere. Living isn't that cheap but it's also not too expensive. Housing is quite expensive for the quality of the houses, but it's not as expensive as it could be.
Honestly there's not much of a nightlife, except what the students back of it. So houseparties and bad pubs are the order of the day around here. At least you're all in it together so do manage to have fun regardless of the quality of the places that you can go to.
There are decent opportunities to do stuff both that is already organised at work, but mainly through other placement students. We've generally organised stuff ourselves and got a group together to do stuff together, which has been fun, but it is sort of up to you to find things to do.
