The Role
Good placement overall. A lot of opportunities and resources for me to study and learn about electrical engineering in the industry. Everybody is polite on site hence helps build confidence while learning. Good working culture in GSK.
Work given and done by me was very much appreciated by everyone. However, it could be better if I can be more involved in larger & important projects, and also more work.
Excellent guidance. Supervisor always tries his best to ensure my mind-set of working is correct. He looks after my safety well. Supervisor is always present in the office, hence makes discussion of certain issues easier as its simple to get hold of him. Plenty of opportunities to work with other departments to understand site business better.
Free most of the time when nothing comes up, but when a certain project comes when I was heavily involved, for the brief period of those times I will be very busy.
Good amount of responsibility as certain projects were given to me to run by myself under supervision. Could be better if more challenging ones are given.
Technical skills that university provided apply to most of the jobs in GSK, except for advance knowledge which requires further studies in university that I have not yet undertake. As mentioned previously, excellent resources present, both colleagues and projects to work with, good opportunity to decide if this is the right path for me. A very good experience to discover this industry related to my university course.
The Company
Good people to work with. Everybody is patient and helpful. Fun colleagues to work with.
Placement was a bit less structured than I thought. I do not have particular projects lined up waiting for me. I do whatever comes up.
Personal training is good. A lot of on site training lined up to ensure my competency in carrying out my role. I work on a lot of tasks given, but no out of site opportunities that is work related.
Flexi Time
Financial Bonus
Company offers graduate programme but does not really benefit those who undertook a year industrial placement, especially for people who has 2 more years of university year ahead of them. For this case student only benefit from manager's recommendation, but will have to reapply as an external candidate like other people. Graduates have very low chance to land in roles and sites they want to.
The Culture
Yes. Placement student in my year are very chatty and outgoing.
Cost of living is very low in this area. Its a small town in a rural area.
There isn't a lot of pubs and clubs in this area. It looks like a place for retired people to stay!
Yes. GSK encourages orange day. Most of us do volunteer to help out in science fair events, and GSK allows paid time off to do orange day events.
