About You
The scheme provided a great insight into the firm, its culture, and the work that lawyers at Simmons & Simmons can get involved in. There was a good balance between organised vacation scheme events and also time to work in the two allocated departments.
During the two weeks there were opportunities to go around and ask partners, associates and trainees for work, which facilitated talking to a range of people in each department. Additionally, some lawyers came to ask me to do work. This made me feel valued.
As required. Graduate Recruitment, allocated supervisors and trainees were all very approachable.
The scheme was particularly useful in clarifying the type of work I would like to do in the future, and also the type of culture of a firm that I would like to work in.
The Company
The scheme was very well structured. There was a good balance between organised vacation scheme events and time allocated to working in departments.
Everyone was friendly and approachable, and happy to have a chat to answer any questions.
We had training on IT and Information Services, which both helped the scheme run smoother. There was also a talk on personal branding which gave an opportunity to self-reflect.
I have walked away with a definite impression of what it would be like to work at Simmons & Simmons, for example the type of tasks that are conducted by trainees, and the level of responsibility given to them.
This was one of the biggest things I learnt about the firm. People at the firm are both friendly and approachable.
The two weeks confirmed my desire to work in a City law firm.
Everything Else
There was adequate pay for the two weeks.
There were plenty of opportunities to network with others at the firm, which meant that you could speak to many different people about their experiences, both in terms of careers at Simmons & Simmons, and more general experiences.
There were well planned social events, which allowed you to get to know the trainees and supervisors in a less formal environment.
I learnt that there were some sporting activities, such as netball, that employees get involved in.
Absolutely. I found the vacation scheme very insightful and it was a great opportunity to confirm my desired career path.
