The Role
The placement was extremely enjoyable where I got to gain an insight on how the company operates and was able to apply my university knowledge in the real world as well as learn many new things as I was able to work with several groups of people across the company
I felt I was a highly valued colleague as I was provided with the required support and information to perform the role in my placement even though I was working with an extremely busy team they managed to take the time out to assist me when required and allow me to excel in my placement
I was given all the support required by the management and supervisors and if they weren't able to assist me they would point me in the correct direction to obtain the support and provide me contacts to find out the information I required, I had regular meeting with senior members of the team ensuring I was on track and any concerns were raised
As with the job role and sector I was In the amount I was busy varied depending on the customers requirements, I had regular tasks set and additional tasks were assigned by the customer which during some times would get overwhelming and at sometimes incredibly slow although over I would say there was a reasonable balance for the role I was performing and there were always others to assist me if I was struggling
during my placement I was given a large amount of responsibility as once trained in my role I was able to work on my own and with the ability to take on smaller projects from the team I was able to take a lead in certain aspects of the projects
the skills I have developed will assist me in my degree as I have learnt so many new things about the working environment, the plant environment and the customers and what common themes occur in the field of engineering, additionally working with senior professionals has allowed me to develop on my knowledge of historical concerns
The Company
as with the job role the atmosphere varied dependent of the requirement, with times being extremely bus and active and times being slow although overall there was a good balance and I enjoyed the environment and team I was put with assisting me and pushing me to do well in my placement
the placement role was fairly organized and had a well structured layout with options of additional responsibilities dependent on the abilities, with contacts across the globe I was able to make the most of my placement and with a team that pushed for success, and allowed to get an overall feel for the company
in terms of personal development the company invested countless hours and levels of support to allow me to make the most of my placement, any concern or issue I had was quickly addressed and i was advised for any additional training or development i should undertake that may benefit me in my job role
International Travel
the future employment aspects of faurecia are extremely appealing as they offer multiple schemes across the globe allowing you to work in different sectors with different people while developing on your knowledge of working in the field and making strong contacts with potential future employers giving you the best future outcome
The Culture
the social scene amongst placement students was good with several activities and events carried out throughout the year allowing the placement student to get to know each other and enjoy time outside of work as well making it a fun place to work, as well as when it came to assignments all the students were able to help each other
the cost of living and socializing in the area was fairly reasonable with many food places being fairly budget friendly and the area having a good variety of activities and things to do with Birmingham being close by there was several events going on in the city which kept me busy during my time here
the nightlife in Birmingham was very good with a variety of bars and clubs to go to , as well as plenty of places to go to in solihull and Litchfield, allowing plenty of choices for a social night out making the placement all that more enjoyable and fun to be at
in the area there were plenty of opportunities to get involved such as most sports and events running, with many local teams making it a fun place to be, and with many students in the area it is a nice environment and you get to know loads of new and interesting people
