About You
I very much enjoyed the insight at Citi and found it to be unique in the sense that it allows first-year university students to sit on a desk for a 5 days. This really is the best way to be able to understand how the business works. Furthermore, having 5 days to spend at the firm allowed me to make the most of the networking opportunities, which I really enjoyed!
Everybody that I met seemed to be very welcoming and this immediately made me feel valued by the firm. This has definitely made me Citi a more attractive employer to me. I found that our welfare as interns was always a priority by the teams we were attached to as well as the HR team.
I felt that we were offered a good deal of support throughout the week by both the HR team and also by the teams that we were shadowing. At the end of the week, we were required to give a group presentation regarding a specific topic, for which we were given a lot of help and guidance.
The skills and knowledge that I developed will certainly help me in the future. Although the knowledge may not directly translate to my degree (Accountancy), the skills that I developed are certainly transferrable. Most notably, I developed my communication and analytical skills, as well as my overall confidence levels whilst at Citi.
The Company
The insight week was well structured and we were provided with a clear timetable of how the week would run. During the week, I found there to be a good balance between desk shadowing and information presentations. Furthermore, I found it very beneficial that the insight programme was one week long, rather than just several days.
There was an extremely positive and lively atmosphere throughout my time spent at Citi and I can thank the HR team and the rest of the interns for making it a really enjoyable week as I spent no time by myself! In the evenings we would socialise together and everyone was very happy and exited to be here.
I felt well invested in throughout my insight week spent at Citi Bank. Although there was no formal 'training', there was a strong focus on our personal development. There were several different presentations and workshops, including a skills session on how to read the financial news and how to perform well in and interview and an assessment centre, which was very beneficial.
Spending one week shadowing a desk really allowed me to understand what it would be like to have a full-time role at Citi Bank. Employees were honest about their own experiences- the highs, the lows, the working hours- and this really allowed me to understand what it would be like to work at Citi.
Very much so. Throughout the networking sessions, we got to see how open people are to sharing their experience with you and many even offered to take us for coffee or for shadowing at their desk, or in their departments in order to let us get a better understanding of the work culture at the company.
The content of the insight week was very useful in helping me to determine whether this career path is for me. The combination of work shadowing, information sessions and networking events allowed me to gain a broad understanding of what a career in investment banking involves and I am looking forward to developing my experience in this area.
Everything Else
This insight week was unpaid, however, all of my travel, accommodation and food expenses were reimbursed.
Yes, there were plenty of networking opportunities on this insight week!
I found all the networking and social event opportunities to be very enjoyable.
Yes, I found out about the different opportunities for Citi employees. We were given a presentation about the opportunity for Citi employees to get involved in clubs outside of work and there are various volunteering activities and initiatives, which were all explained to us. Furthermore, there are various different sporting clubs and teams.
Yes, I would absolutely recommend this insight to a friend!
