About You
The BP discovery day was very insightful and enjoyable. If you take anything from the day, it's a great opportunity to meet like-minded, motivational people who have the same career mindset.
During the day an hour long presentation was delivered by a senior BP employee, who had worked there for over thirty years and had a vast amount of experience with the company. The fact he had the time out of his day to inspire the discovery day participants and tell us about life at BP shows how valued you are even when you are not a BP employee.
There was a session in the day focused on the application process and interview skills which helped us get an indication of what BP is looking for in prospective graduates.
The mixed engineering discovery day did somewhat focus slightly on Chemical Engineering during an academic and problem solving session. However, the graduates that came in and spoke to us were from varying STEM disciplines which highlights that if you are interested in BP and study any STEM subject you will find a place right for you at BP.
The Company
It was structured with a set of sessions and presentations throughout the day. There were times during the day where the groups split into two to do different sessions but they finished at different times, causing one group to wait round for a bit during the day.
The general atmosphere was great after the nervous first hour. If I was to give any advice it would be to ask AS MANY QUESTIONS as possible - as this will give you so much more info about internships/grad placements at BP. Don't be afraid to speak in the room in front of strangers, because once you do it, it makes others feel comfortable about doing the same.
They offer insights into what you can do further at BP and what you can apply for, giving all the relevant info.
Graduates and a senior person at the company came in and gave detailed information about their roles and what it is like to work there.
It was in the first presentation and is incredibly useful for applying, because it allows you to find out if you are right for them too.
Very helpful, it showed you everything about the company and maybe what you might not like about working there.
Everything Else
Reimbursed travel for up to £100. If it is over this then you contact them and they will sort you accommodation if the journey is 3+ hours.
There wasn't really one to one meeting with any graduates apart from when given tours of the building.
Over lunch you were able to chat to the other students to gauge what you thought of the day so far and to chat to some BP members.
The day was more a focus on BP and that wasn't mentioned a lot throughout the day. However, they do offer gym memberships at the work place and sporting opportunities with work.
Absolutely.
