The Role
It was a great insight into a finance team, working with the financial statement tasks for the EU HQ.
The team were really fun and friendly, who were happy to help with any problem which I faced along the way.
We had monthly meetings to discuss goals and development opportunities for the month ahead which was really useful for both soft and hard skills.
Statement period was the first 6 days of the month and these were super busy and varied. The remaining time was a lot quieter, however I picked up lots of side projects to fill this free time.
The internship was not at all stereotypical, and the responsibility was of the same level of the people in the team who were ACCA or CIMA qualified.
My concentration, time management and focus have increased massively, and the financial accounting knowledge will help with studies next year.
The Company
The team were fun and lively, unlike a stereotypical accounts team!
The internship is annual, therefore many of my tasks were taken on from the intern previous to me so the structure was already set in place.
Skill development was a priority and had the opportunity to sit with other departments which I have an interest in too.
They do not offer graduate schemes in the headquarters, therefore it would require starting from the bottom once university has finished.
The Culture
Occasional pub visits on a friday evening, team lunches every few months.
The office is based in Surrey so cost of living is quite high. Rent was a lot more than where I am from so bear this in mind when applying.
Egham is very quiet, the nearest nightlife would be in Windsor which is super expensive.
I did many side projects such as getting involved in the Wellness Committee at work which run activities for mental health, nutritional health and physical too.
