The Role
I think this placement provided me with an excellent set of soft skills, I was respected and given responsibility in my role. With my role I gained strong communication skills by working alongside many different colleagues and many different suppliers (companies). The placement provided me with a strong foundation of professional skills such as teamwork and collaboration, leadership and self-management skills. Throughout this placement I have felt that my personal confidence and maturity has improved greatly, I feel I can now go into situations/ problems and confidently make decisions and put across my point clearly and concisely even under pressured situations.
I was given responsibility in my role and often was given free range to carry out projects without any input from any colleagues. I was respected by all my colleauges in all the projects I did and the decisions I made. When approaching colleagues for assistance or for information they always were happy to help.
I always had tasks or projects to do throughout my placement. I felt I had the perfect balance of doccumentation work and project work
I was given responibility from the day I sarted and often got important projects that I ran from start to finish including projects that were presented externally from the company. I was entrusted with the maintenance budget (a multi-million pound budget) to order critical stock and organise services to get carried out.
I think that the modular content of the degree is good for R&D/Design based engineering sectors, rather than production environments, however this should not be changed as that is the core principles, production based skills are easier learnt on the job, especially with the background knowledge and intuition taught in my course. I feel like this placement has helped me progress with personal and professional skills that will better prepare me for full time employment after graduation
The Company
In our office there was always some good banter going around. There was often activities to bring us all together.
Well organised with a good balance between project work and doccumentation.
