The Role
My internship has been a fantastic opportunity to develop a variety of skills through networking and learning opportunities. The internship has allowed me to gain an overview both of my own business area as well as gaining knowledge and experience of other business areas within RBS.
As a colleague I have felt very valued, regardless of position or authority. I have been highly respected as an intern and given the necessary time to complete my tasks. All staff members make themselves available to talk to and are happy to answer any questions you may have.
I have been supported and guided at all stages within my internship, being given weekly one-to-one sessions whereby I have been able to review my learning and any upcoming opportunities. The use of objectives and a learning log have provided me with an opportunity to reflect on my learning within these one-to-one sessions.
My workload has varied over the time that I have been at the bank depending on tasks to do and any relevant admin work. My workload was less significant in the first few weeks of my internship but as I have learnt and developed my skills I have been greater responsibility with the opportunity to take on more work.
As my skills have developed further I have been given more responsibility to take on challenges and tasks with less guidance. This has been a key learning opportunity of this internship as my colleagues have shown trust in the work that I do through knowing that I will get the task done.
The skills that I have developed during this internship are very transferable and I feel they have already made an impact on the way I conduct myself in certain aspects of my academic and personal life. My ability to communicate and manage my time well have been two key skills, for example.
The Company
The office environment has been welcoming and comfortable. I have been given my own space to conduct my work as well as the correct tools necessary. The colleagues in my office have made me feel welcome from day one, including me in conversations and inviting me to take part in activities outside the office environment.
The internship has been very well organised and well communicated from day one. My personal development has been prioritised through my objectives and learning log which has allowed me to reflect at all stages on my own skills and experiences.
At all stages my own personal development has been key, with colleagues regularly trying to find out what exactly it is that I wanted to get out of the internship and ways or opportunities in which they could help with this development. The company have at all stages provided information on extensive opportunities that I have been able to engage in throughout my time here.

Future employment prospects are very appealing to me. I have been given a foundation set of skills and an inside knowledge of how the bank is structured and how different business areas operate. The culture of the company as a working environment has also been a big appeal with the ability to work from home around personal commitments.
The Culture
The social scene among fellow interns was key to my enjoyment. Regularly meeting up and discussing our daily activities gave an insight into all areas of the company. Social events have also helped to build these relationships that I would say have definitely turned into close friendships during my time at the company.
Living N/A. Socialising in Manchester is a great way to get to know people and to wind-down after a busy day at work. Drinking around the Spinningfields area of Manchester is relatively expensive however there are certainly opportunities to find cheaper venues within close proximity.
The nightlife in Manchester is great. There are many different opportunities to go on many different types of nights out.
