    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Great fun, job was really interesting and work I got put on felt in the most cases like a good use of my skills. Loads of opportunities to learn through talking to line managers or going to training events held by experts to the whole cluster.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Was given lots of tasks, but due to the nature of the work and the short time I was spending in it, I couldn't help as much with many of the important jobs. Still, felt that I was valued in the work which I was doing.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Weekly meetings made it easy to get time put aside specifically for support and guidance, and working in the desk next to my line manager meant that it was easy to ask for help when I needed it. Also got help from others during training sessions, which was really useful as got advice from multiple perspectives.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At start had to wait a while to get permissions for many programs, and couldn't help out with much of the harder work other people were doing. However did have enough projects on the go to always have something to do and contribute to in the end.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • In terms of responsibility, many of the jobs I was doing were non-critical, but still useful. The intern project for the placement felt important sometimes, but due to it being pretty disorganised made it feel not massively useful. I understand it is hard to give responsibilities to interns in this area, so am not too upset.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think that the training I received will be very useful demonstrating me being able to work in this sector, but honing the skills of time management and communication was really good. I'm not sure it will help much in degree studies, but certain it will help in working and looking for work in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Friendly people and they all seemed to be happy as well, which helps the environment. Were a few office events while we were here which was nice to get to know others (usually grads).

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There were plenty of group projects I was put on, but the intern specific one took weeks to get ready, meaning that the presentations we have to make to our line managers will be rushed. Often there was not work for me to do, though they could put together a few tasks when I asked, but then that's the nature of this sector.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Got lots of intern specific training from experts on important information relating to the cluster. Also went along to training open to the whole office, which was really interesting and high-level. One-to-ones with my line manager also have good advice and training, so I feel I've got loads out of this.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The graduate scheme looks really interesting, but being here has taught me lots about other sectors of the organisation that I could get a job in, outside of what I am interning in. It's slightly opened my eyes to other sectors which I may be better suited for, and the face that the graduate scheme is a 4 1/2 year commitment, means that I'm a bit nervous to commit, even though it is a very good job.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We had lunch together pretty much every day, and are all in the same situation being finalists next year, so we all got along really well. Did a few events outside the office which helped us get to know each other, and I hope to keep in touch with them after the placement.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It is London, so I think that's all I need to say.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Didn't really go out although I would've like to, also it is pretty pricy. Reckon the student nights at uni would be better.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Were a few cluster specific events, though as interns tended not to go to them it did put me off a little, it being a bit out of my comfort zone. 5-a-side football was meant to be running throughout (but low turnout meant it was not) so not masses, but by no means nothing.
