The Role
It has been both an eye opening and a truly enjoyable journey into the corporate world. It has helped me grow as a person and clarified my wonders of whether or not I would actually enjoy the 'London Life'. I could not recommend enough how great internships are to help you realise what you actually want to do.
I was never left without something to do or sat there twiddling my toes! I would receive emails asking for my availability which was nice, as opposed to people assuming I'm free and bombarding me with tasks. I was invited out for food and drinks often, as well as being invited to the annual drinks party. So in both regards I felt highly valued and well respected.
There were weekly meetings/catch ups with my buddy and a range of meetings with my peoples manager. The Buddy system is great as they are both friendly and relatable in a some what foreign environment Having a peoples manager (who you go to for the more formal things) was also very useful as they helped me set and accomplish my goals through my experience.
At the start of the internship I was less busy, but that might be because I said yes to less tasks at first (To ensure maximum quality on the tasks at hand). As I became more comfortable, people would ask me to do more tasks, and I would accept more as my confidence grew and as I better understood the software.
This was the area I most enjoyed at my time with Grant Thornton. There was always someone friendly near to ask questions to, but never over your shoulder to the extent where they're doing the work for you. So there is responsibility, but your work will always be double checked to ensure what you are doing is correct, and if not for them to help you improve for next time. I had to carry out a presentation training session, so at times there will be high responsibility, as well as pressure to perform (as expected with any job)
I have developed my communication skills dramatically throughout this experience. This is through sending emails (CONSTANTLY!), joining meetings, presenting (Note: we were trained how to effectively present) and more. In addition, my computer skills have increased significantly. I have started using more shortcuts, making life a LOT easier (Trust me!). I've also become very familiar with Microsoft excel, which will be handy with any future experience as well as university. The skills you learn are endless, these are just a few.
The Company
Although the work we were doing was relevant to what we will be doing in the future (which don't get me wrong it great), as we were only here for 6 weeks we often picked up lots of odd tasks. I would have liked to have gotten stuck into actual projects which lasted throughout the internship for instance. The rest of the structuring was great, with a presentation at the end, fun greeting activities etc.
This is a huge tick from GT. The amount of socials and training sessions were endless. We even went to a manner house for 2 whole days to receive training from professionals on how to present and general growth as a person. The socials were full with alcohol and snacks. Bowling alleys etc were booked out for us to enjoy as interns.

There is a good chance of conversion here at Grant Thornton. It takes account of your feedback and your presentation whether or not you make the cut. Feedback reviews are based on your goals set. If you complete all your goals or better yet, exceed them, you stand a great shot.
The Culture
I worked in Lodnon, so I think that speaks for itself. trains to work are VERY expensive, taking a large cut of my wages. Food and drink is also very expensive (in most places), so we generally go to the company café or bring our own lunch. If you're cautious you will be fine
