About You
I found the vacation scheme really enjoyable, both because of the standard of the work I was given that made it feel l was really making a difference, and the vibe and welcoming nature of the firm. The events put on throughout the week really allowed all the vac schemers to get to know each other which also made the fortnight very enjoyable.
I felt very valued as the work I was being given had real repercussions and members of the firm were keen to keep me informed as to the progress of deals that I had worked on. Moreover, everyone was very grateful for all the tasks I did complete and were quick to send their appreciations.
The training buddies and supervisors were eager to guide you and answer any questions you might have. Moreover, every member of the department who gave me work always sat down with me and gave me the background to the task and were happy to answer any queries and explain no doubt quite basic concepts to me.
The Company
I thought it was really well structured as there was a fantastic balance of informative talks, time spent in your department so you could really get involved in the work and social events. I would recommend that we potentially include a talk by a member of every main department as this would allow greater understanding of the firm.
Although undeniably a busy firm, everyone was so friendly and made such an effort to help you understand concepts and explain the background to work that you were doing. There was a definite sense of teamwork and support within the departments and a desire to help each other rather than shine alone.
Considering that most of the work given to us was typical of work for a trainee, I felt the experience was an accurate representation of what it would be like to work here. While the hours were certainly more generous on the scheme than they would be usually, the sense of comardarie was amazing.
Everything Else
There were plenty of opportunities to meet other employees within the firm, particularly at social events such as lunches and after work drinks. The networking sessions built into the days also gave exposure to partners and associated from across the departments and meant there was a wide variety of people that you could ask questions to.
Both the networking and the social opportunities were fantastic. Events such as a ride on the London Eye and the chocolate making workshop were so original and a lovely way to get to know the other people on the scheme, and obviously nothing bonds people like collectively watching England play in the semi-final of the World Cup.
Yes, in the presentation about the training contract, both Tracy and the current trainees spoke about the different pro-bono activities you can get involved in, the sports teams, the networks and the charity events. I also then spent a lovely lunchtime discussing the different sports teams with a group of the trainees.
I would certainly recommend the insight to a friend if they were interested in perusing a career in law. The exposure to fantastic work made it a great experience and gave you a good idea of what it would actually be like to work for a city firm, so was an invaluable experience.
