About You
I only did a two week work experience placement, but the time I was there I got the sense the staff were all very close and welcoming. I observed cashiers, personal banking appointments and mortgage appointments. I had a very good time observing the role of bankers, and enjoyed everything.
The day started at 9:30 am, where I would be given different tasks daily and they would be completed in the given duration deadline. My lunch would be around 12 pm every day, whereas I would put in the staff room completing the daily tasks. At the end of the week, the manager offered me to stay longer and train for the full-time job. I declined as I wanted to finish my business course.
During my work experience i was able to gain a wider knowledge and understanding of the day to day running of a bank from small jobs such as organising deposit slips and file keeping, to higher things such as loan pitches. The support was truly fantastic and made my time wonderful.
In a typical day, I spent most of my time listening and asking questions about the workplace, however I was given some things to do such as enter information into spreadsheets, sort things into files etc. I learned a lot about the "behind the scenes" of such a prestigious business, and about the documents and confidentiality of those documents. But the most important thing I learned was that I needed something far more upbeat to keep me interested.
The Company
My time spent there was on a work placement but the staff were very welcoming and management was always around and setting a good example to staff and also myself. I felt very happy going to work in the mornings knowing it would be a good day. I was given the opportunity to come back and grow in the business.
The atmosphere was very pleasant and friendly, and this stood out to me. Once my work placement had finshed the supervisor who was guiding me had said that I would be perfect to work as a personal banker as I had displayed the right skills that are required such as comminication, organisation and patience.
A journey that allows you to learn new things everyday as you tackle different challenges such as language barriers with customers. Also being able to work as a team as well as independently to make sure tasks are being done efficiently and carefully especially when handling sensitive information. Really appreciate their effort.
A typical day of working in Barclays is dealing with money and customers and making sure that their money is dealt with correctly and deal with any complaints and concerns correctly. The management are really nice and friendly. The most enjoyable part of the job is spending time with different areas of the business and looking at how they do their job.
The Barclays Code of Conduct outlines the Values and Behaviours which govern our way of working across our business globally. It constitutes a reference point covering all aspects of colleagues’ working relationships, specifically (but not exclusively) with other Barclays employees, customers and clients, governments and regulators, business partners, suppliers, competitors and the broader community.
Amazing staff, brilliant atmosphere, excellent team. Everyday you will be learning something new. Of course you have grumpy customers time to time, but can easily switch it to a smile. Hardest part of the job is dealing with complaints, and the best part is bonding with the team. This definitely helped me understand what banking would be like.
