The Role
I look forward to getting into the office each morning. The positive attitude of UBS and its employees creates a welcoming working environment, and allows me to work as effectively as possible.
Every UBS employee I have spoken with is always very friendly and welcoming, and takes time when talking to me about the company to ensure I have an understanding of how each business function operates.
Each task that I have worked on with UBS has been clearly explained to me. If I have any additional queries while I am working on the task, my line manager will always make time for me, helping me to complete tasks to a high quality.
My work load is high enough that the day fly's by, but not to a standard that I am unable to cope with.
Having only been with UBS for a few weeks, I enjoy the responsibility on working on active projects, often working with raw data, to interpret meaningful information which will be of value to UBS.
Over the last few weeks, my ability of working on spreadsheets (excel) has been my biggest improvement. It has helped me to see the real world application on my Mathematics degree. My statistical analysis and computer programming skills have also improved greatly.
The Company
Positive attitudes from all employees, most notably from senior management. More senior members of UBS are very friendly, and want to ensure that their interns experience with UBS is a positive one.
Internship is well organized, offering speaker series talks to improve our understanding of how the business operates, as well as working on multiple different projects across many different departments, particularly in my department, IB COO.
First week at UBS was spent entirely on training. Excel training, business specific training (Economics revision) etc. This training ensured that the work given to me by my Line Manager would not be outside of my comfort zone, and that I would be able to complete all projects to a high quality and in a timely manner.

The summer internship program is pipelined to the graduate program. This not only improves the chances of interns being selected for graduate positions, but also gives us confidence that UBS believes in our ability to perform well, and that we are valued by the company.
The Culture
During the first week, interactive games, often beginning with the line "go up to someone you haven't met yet and..." has certainly helped me to meet many people from many different departments on the company. UBS recommended accommodation has also been a big positive for me during my internship, as my flat of 4 all work at UBS. Finally social events such as volleyball tournaments and social drinks have greatly improved my social circle at UBS.
Cost of living in London is certainly far higher than I am used to from my time at Loughborough University (although this is hardly a surprise). For example it is good value if you find a place that offers a pint for £5 (the only measurement that really matters)
Living near Shoreditch is a huge plus. Many young people in the area and multiple clubs, bars etc. London nightlife is far greater than I expected.
Invitations for events such as dodgeball and volleyball competitions gives you an opportunity to meet new people, and have a break with your work friends.
