About You
I have thoroughly enjoyed the vacation programme. I have had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, work in a team environment and have been given many different work tasks to complete. I now have a much broader depth of what audit can entail.
I felt valued during my time at the company. I have been given lots of responsibility and had to be very organised to ensure that each task gets completed on time to a high standard. I have been praised when I have done a task correctly and also been offered advice on how to improve work if necessary.
The first 2 induction days offered lots of guidance which was extremely useful, especially on the second day when we were split into smaller groups so our individual questions could be heard by the group and answered directly. KPMG employees have also been very helpful, both on my team and from those I have met in the office. I have felt very welcome and supported during my vacation programme at KPMG.
Through the My Learning page I have been able to take part in online courses on what audit is and basic excel training. Gaining a more in-depth knowledge as to what audit entails will help with my future career aspirations. The excel training I have completed will help with my degree studies in data analysis.
The Company
I believe the insight was well structured. Prior to the induction days, I received a timetable for what the first 2 days as a vacation student would entail, which I found very useful as it helped identify where I needed to be and what I needed to complete in my first two days. Once joining my client team, my days have been very structured and organised and I have been kept busy with many diverse tasks.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere during my vacation programme. The KPMG employees have all been very approachable and willing to answer any questions I have had. My client team in particular made me feel extremely welcome, and have been very understanding when I am unsure of how to complete certain elements of tasks, and taken the time to explain how I should complete it. There has been the opportunity to attend social events, both with my client team and with the other interns, and this is something I have really enjoyed, as I have been able to meet new people and learn about KPMG employees career progressions.
I feel KPMG has invested in me. They have taken the time to introduce me to many employees in all sectors, and I have had the opportunity to chat with an upcoming partner. I have been allowed to go to a client site and complete many tasks whilst there, and members of the team have taken time out of there schedule to explain when I was unsure of certain elements to audit, and also teach me new skills.
I feel the insight has helped me to understand what a full time role with KPMG would be like. I have worked from both the office and from client sites and worked before and after office hours with the team to ensure that work is completed. I have been able to attend a variety of meetings and had the opportunity to work in a team environment, something I thoroughly enjoyed. The work I have been exposed to has given me a well rounded overview of what a full time role with KPMG would be like.
The insight has definitely helped me in understanding the company culture. In the first two insight days we were explained what the KPMG culture was like, and the information we were given was very accurate.
My experience at KPMG confirmed my future career path. Completing a four week vacation programme in audit has meant I have been exposed to a wide range of work, been part of a large, supportive team and pushed to make sure the work was required to a very high standard. Audit was extremely interesting and it appears to be a very rewarding career path as KPMG strive to bring out the best in both yourself and the work you complete.
Everything Else
At the end of my vacation programme I will be paid. I need to claim expenses and then I believe I will also be reimbursed.
Yes, there was several opportunities for networking and meeting other employees at KPMG. Particularly in the first week, I met many employees and interns. In my second and third week I was at a client site but in the evenings all the employees would meet. In my fourth and final week at KPMG there is a networking event for all interns. Furthermore, in my final week my people leader has also organised me to meet with an upcoming partner of the firm.
The networking/social events were great. I met other vacation programme students and also KPMG employees. Several of these employees were on the graduate scheme completing their ACA qualifications, so it was extremely interesting to talk to them to get a good understanding of what this would entail.
Yes, I learnt that KPMG has many clubs to get involved in, for example the cricket club. I was also offered to take part in a rounder's match after work one evening.
Yes I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend. I have had an invaluable experience and it has confirmed that I would like a future career in audit. I have developed many existing skills and had the opportunity to work in a team environment but also be independent and work off my own initiative.
