    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed my time at Taylor Wessing. Not only was it a steep learning curve, with many tasks and new information about the legal industry thrown my way, which kept me stimulated, but we were given great responsibility from the outset. The culture of the firm was friendly and welcoming, and this made my experience thoroughly enjoyable.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • It was fantastic that Taylor Wessing gave us great responsibility from the outset, which allowed me to feel very valued. I was given real work and proper feedback, which was fantastic. I also appreciated that our presentation feedback and scheme feedback was very much taken on board. Overall, I felt that both my work and opinions were highly valued at Taylor Wessing.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I received lots of support from the HR team at Taylor Wessing. I found the trainee buddy and supervisor system was particularly effective, as it was useful to have support not only from someone who had just been through the process, but a partner with the benefit of his/her wide experience to guide us.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Owing to the fact that we were given a free reign to ask partners, trainees and associates lots of questions, I was able to fully develop my skills and knowledge of not only the legal industry but careers and further study, which I really appreciated. The 'focus on' sessions were great as they allowed us to learn more about the departments which we were not sat in.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • I thought that the insight was extremely well structured. I never had time on my hands where I wasn't learning new things or completing tasks. I felt constantly stimulated, and there were even a few social events in the week so we could gain a deep understanding of the firm's culture.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I felt that the HR department, trainees and those higher up in the firm all worked together to make us feel very welcome, giving us not only their time but being friendly and approachable. The trainees in particular, empathized with our situations and did their best to advise us on how to do best on the scheme.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt very invested in by the firm. Not only did partners in every department make the time to speak to us and share their knowledge with us, but we were given feedback on every piece of work, which I was greatly impressed by. I went for numerous coffees with partners and supervisors who were happy to spend up to an hour talking to us, despite clearly being very busy.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I felt, alongside my questions about the firm's culture, that the insight allowed me to see all aspects of the firm - from the hours and work/life balance, to the general culture of the firm which we experienced first hand through the various well-organized social events. By the end of the two weeks, I had gained a great understanding of the firm's culture.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I found that the insight gave me a very in depth understanding of the company culture. The social events in particular were helpful for this, as we were able to mingle with lots of different trainees and ask lots of questions, whilst sitting in the departments allowed me to experience the general office culture firsthand.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I found the Taylor Wessing vacation scheme was extremely valuable in terms of helping me to decide my future career path. Having spent two weeks there, I really felt by the end of it that I had made the right decision to be a lawyer, based on the work and lifestyles of the employees at the firm and the advice I had been given.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I felt that the £800 we were reimbursed for our time on the scheme was more than adequate, as for me the experience was incredibly valuable and I was happy to spend my time doing it. However owing to the high cost of travel, food and transport in London, it was very helpful to be reimbursed this amount.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, there were plenty of opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company, which was fantastic. We met lots of partners through the twice a day focus in sessions, which we could then follow up with a coffee and questions. We also met all the people in our departments and at the social events, many trainees.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking and social event opportunities were fantastic. In particular I really enjoyed the social events that were organized for us. I also found the talks extremely useful as they gave us a way to meet lawyers in other departments and ask lots of questions about the different areas of law.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes I did. In particular we learnt about the pro bono initiatives of the firm, such as the Blackfriars settlement, alongside also being told about the various sporting and diversity and inclusion initiatives of the firm, which was encouraging and attractive to me. It was great to see that there were so many options for being involved outside of work.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes I would. Not only did I feel valued but I had a great time, meeting new people and learning lots about the legal industry as a whole alongside the firm, and it was a valuable opportunity to ask questions and gain feedback on our work, allowing me to develop my legal skills.
