    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have loved my time at TUI UK, everyday is different. The team are all really friendly and supportive you in your role and you also get to travel too! I've been on three overseas visits this year. Would really recommend TUI to anyone who is looking for an exciting placement in the travel industry.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • When you join the business you join the TUI family, it sounds cliche as it's said all the time but you aren't treated as an intern or a placement student you are in a real role with real responsibility and everyone fully values your opinions, thoughts and inputs in meetings and in general.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I have to say the support TUI UK provides its staff and placement students is the main reason i was drawn to the scheme. Firstly my manager was amazing she has given me support and guidance throughout my time here but has also given me space to grow and pushed me to challenge myself. Secondly, i have to given the upmost praise to the L&D team. The TUI UK placement scheme have their own dedicated L&D team who are just fantastic. Most of them have been on the scheme themselves so know what it's like. They help organise projects, support you in your role, help you to discover different departments and they all do that additionally to their full time job. They are all really passionate about seeing you succeed.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In the travel industry it is fairly seasonal, their are peaks and troughs but TUI UK are really good at allocating a good balanced workload, if you felt under or over worked they are always good with allocating you with more or less work. It is also always interesting work.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Again that classic cliche, you weren't treated as an intern or a placement student. I hit the ground running and was given real responsibility also throughout your time the placement team are given a series of projects to complete with are business critical. During my time we conducted a review into the airlines in-flight entertainment and reviewed the TUI retail stores, it's really rewarding to see your suggestions implemented.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There are too many skills that I've learnt or developed over this year to mention. I've really been able to bring my studies to life and link a lot of what I've done back to my degree but also I've developed a lot a soft skills that future employers really look for.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really nice atmosphere, everyone is really friendly. Depending on which office you work in you will have different perks. The Luton head office has a canteen that servers some great food and it also has a subsidized Costa. The Surbiton office is right on the high street and close to Kingston so is great for drinks after work.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • With the scheme there is an L & D Team who are dedicated to the placement scheme. They all work really hard and are there to support you. Because of the L & D team the scheme runs like clockwork, all really well organised and the support they give is excellent

The L & D team are critical in supporting you with this and they help you evaluate your strengths and weaknesses and how you can improve with a clear PDP.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future employment prospects at TUI UK are great. The scheme really encourage you to look around different departments during your time and help you to find out where you might want to work in the future. TUI UK also offer students contracts to return to the business before they go back to uni which really takes the stress away from finding a job.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • One thing that TUI UK is famous (infamous) for is its social scene. At TUI UK there is a fairly young workforce, everyone there works hard but also parties hard. TUI UK host a load of work parties and everyone is really relaxed and friendly senior members of staff are really social too.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The area is great i'd really recommend working in the office. It can however be slightly expensive as it is in London but it's to be expected.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • TUI UK are a sociable company and always plan a night out so if you like a good night out then you will be in good company. It nice to work for a company that are so sociable, it really helps with your work if you get on with the people!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are loads of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. TUI UK give all their employees a charity day where you take a day off and help the local community in activities run by TUI UK. They also host back to the floor days designed to give you a feel for what it's like being on the front line with customers.
