The Role
The work was both enjoyable as well as being challenging. I worked on a variety of different projects, which I felt made it even more enjoyable as I managed to experience different fields of actuarial work.
The team could not have been more welcoming and entrusted me with lots of different work. Despite being extremely busy they always made time for me to explain tasks. Furthermore, we enjoyed social events
The management team were very supportive despite being busy. They regularly checked up with interns. Not only the management team but even the more junior members all provided support.
Generally throughout the internship I was busy and had a good amount of work. However there were times where I did not have any work, but this did not last for long periods. When there was not any work I could easily go round and ask people if they needed any jobs doing
I was treated as though I was any other member of the team. They entrusted me with much reSponsibility on a variety of different jobs
Everything I have learnt will add great value to my studies as I have now been able to see where my studies are applied in the real world. Furthermore, when I graduate I will have a good understanding of the work I will be taking part in and the processes involved
The Company
The atmosphere was very welcoming and relaxed to a suitable level. I felt comfortable and at ease when in the office but there was still the balance of professionalism so it was also a respectful office atmosphere. Understandably there were periods when everyone was busier so the atmosphere was less joyful, however it was never unpleasant
It was well set up with a thorough induction for all the interns on the first few days. Furthermore we also had training days away at their training manor. However at times there were areas where people were unsure of what was supposed to be happening and when things were taking place
The company invested lots into our training. Every intern got a chance to spend 2 day at their training manor, which was a very valuable experience. Furthermore the actuarial team ensured that I understood every job and task I had. Once my tasks were complete I’d often then be challenged with something more difficult, this helped in my development.

I was lucky enough to be offered a graduate role off the back of my internship, which is very exciting! I feel very positive about returning to work for Grant Thornton as it was a pleasure to work there during my internship. The prospects for other interns seemed positive too, with a solid opportunity to be offered a graduate role.
The Culture
There were of social events and occasions to get involved in, both between interns and members of the team. Luckily my internship fell on the Actaurial teams away day, therefore we spent two days in Alton Towers. This really helped to let me settle into the team as it gave a great social event opportunity.
As it is central London it could be quite expensive, however it did depend entirely on where you were going. As with everywhere some places are more expensive than others, although the nicer places and places people tend to want to go to are definitely more expensive than I am used to
I experienced a couple of nights in bars and it is definitely buzzing. Being in central London there is always going to be a lively atmosphere, with people out socialising every night at bars near by. As for actual nightclubs I did not go to any during my time. It is more of a bar scene.
My internship fell at a time when there were a few drink social events planned. However, lots of team members were very busy during my internship so not everyone could attend and there was not as many opportunities as other, less busy, teams at the company. But I think the activities depend on th time of the year and who has the time.
