    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had such an amazing year at TWDC. I learnt so much and all the people that I worked with were keen to help, treated you with respect and trust, and were so inspirational along the way. I had so much fun as well as learnjgn a great deal, and made great friends too.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I always felt that I was given work that was valued and genuinely needed to better the team that I was in. The managers are very keen to get you to put your own twist on the work and play to your strengths while doing so which in turn made me realise my strengths and weaknesses.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support was always there when you needed it, but the managers would equally encourage you to work things out for yourself where possible and use your initiative. Although I was less confident with this at first; I soon got the hang of how the company worked and the way they liked things done.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the beginnkng of my placement it was sometimes harder to know what to do if I was not specifically given tasks. However, as the weeks and months went on and I began to grasp the aims of the teams that I was working with, I was able to do my own background research etc. and make my own work.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I feel that at times I was given a huge amount of responsibility, which came at the right time for me - towards the middle/end of placement when I had fully grasped my role. I was never really made to feel like an intern and the work was always used and taken seriously.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Along with the design and creative skills which have been developed further during this placement, my confidence within myself and the industry have also been strengthened massively. I have also learnt a great deal about networking and the importance of making connections, especially for the industry that I am going into.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Aside from a few unfortunate events that had specifically during my year at TWDC, the atmosphere was always brilliant in the office. Everyone was always really happy and a lot of effort was made to ensure that the interns got the best opportunities whilst they were on their placement year.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As with any university or placement, it sometimes takes time for the correct forms to come back, as both parties have a lot of them to process. However, on the whole I would say that the process was pretty seamless and TWDC are well aware of the systems that are in place for university.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were always encouraged to play to our strengths in the work that we were doing, whether this was creatively or in terms of the entire approach. Aside from this, we were always encouraged to attend the forums and visitor talks that were going on around the office, which were common.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Healthcare/Dental

    Travel loan

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • People in my team and surrounding teams were keen to stay in contact once I had left, which I am really keen to do. Unfortunately, as TWDC don’t offer graduate schemes, I would need to apply for a job once I finish at university but it is quite common to see people hired who have been at the company before on placement.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We all got on so well and the teams always made an effort to ensure that we had team events to look forward to and to bring the teams closer together. Outside of work; the interns were all great friends and we are still in contact after our placements have finished.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • In London itself, it is expensive to live and socialise, but we were always trying to find the fun and popular places to go as we knew that we were on there for a year. Most of the time we would bring our own lunch in to save money that way.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Around the office there were few places to go, but just a few stops away from central London meant that there were endless places to go. We could always go somewhere different and it was especially nice in the summer when we had summer working hours so finished slightly earlier on a Friday afternoon.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We would always have team events and charity events organised outside of work that we were encouraged to go to. Interns were never exempt from anything and the opportunities are advertised on the company homepage so that everyone knows about them. It was a fun place to be and work and this was all organised by the team heads.
