The Role
Felt really settled from day one which was really nice. Everyone was always really happy to give me their time and help me with any work or questions I had. The structure of the internship I felt was really good at exposing you to as much as possible and actively getting you involved all around the business and interacting with different people around the office.
Colleagues were always happy to give me their time and help me with any questions. Tasks were delegated well and I was trusted with some hands on work which went straight to clients. I honestly felt really valued by the whole office and it felt like I was just another member of staff who had been there for years.
Support and guidance couldn't have been any more! From day one they gave me their time and were always happy giving me further support and answering questions whenever asked. This carried on throughout the whole placement. I feel the structure of the internship sets up this level of support and guidance really well as you are always aiming to achieve thing and being exposed to new things.
Some days I was really busy and some days were pretty quiet, this was good as every day was exciting as it brought fresh challenges. My workload over the period was manageable but demanding. This was good as I always had something to be getting on with and I wasn't left in the position of sitting around with nothing to do which can happen on work experience!
A lot of my work was left for me to get on with, with nobody checking over my shoulder. It was really surprising the level of trust and responsibility my team gave me but it was a nice feeling that they had the confidence in me that I could get the job done and done well!
I really feel this experience is one I can take not only to aid me in my final year at university but also throughout my career as a surveyor. I have learnt so many of the day-to-day things that gets easily swopped over in the classroom which really helps consolidating my knowledge and putting the theory into practise
The Company
A really nice friend vibe! Everyone was always happy to chat and there was some great office banter. This was really nice as it made the time at work really enjoyable. Even when my work was a bit tedious, you could always rely on having some good discussions and a laugh with someone in the office - made the time fly!
As mentioned before, I couldn't fault the organisation and set up of the internship. It allowed you to meet various people from all around the office getting a great insight in what they do and advice they can pass over. Not to mention helping to improve your networking skills and organisation!
I felt the firm were really generous with their investment of time and money. There were so many people happy to set aside time for me even though they have plenty of things to be getting on with! They also providing me with plenty of equipment, training sessions, opportunities to explore new things etc.
Job opportunities within the organisation is looking really promising. I have to wait and found out but I have felt that I really have settled in well and the working environment really suits my personality. I've felt my presence over the period has really been valued by the office as I have received so much positive feedback. To conclude, if I was offered a graduate job with Savills I would be so happy to accept as I feel that my personality and the company's culture are in harmony
The Culture
I was the only intern in the office over the period but I socialised well with the couple of graduate surveyors that were in the office. They were really nice like-minded people so we got on really well. It was nice to have some in depths discussions with people similar to you age as they can talk about recent experiences they've had and advice they can give on the next stage of my career
I was in Reading so the cost of living was reasonably expensive but I managed fine. Luckily I go to university in Reading so I stayed in my student house over the period. This really worked well as it saved me a large commuting cost/time and I didn't have to pay for additional accommodation
Didn't really go out during the night so cannot comment on this.
Yes! For example, this afternoon/evening I am joining Savills in a charity event where we are building a raft and racing up and down a stretch of the River Thames! Also, only yesterday we had a few drinks and lunch in town with the team I work in which was really nice.
