The Role
The Savills Summer Internship has been a really interesting and fun experience and has definitely helped me to understand more about what the job entails and what it is like to work for Savills. The work has been interesting and I have always felt like a member of the team.
Everyone has made me feel like a member of the team and have always asked for my opinion on topics which has made me feel more than just a four week student. It was nice to become a part of the office atmosphere and get to know people from other teams too
I have always felt supported by the team I have been in, and have never felt like I couldn't ask a question or query something if I have been unsure which has been very reassuring. Everyone has been very proactive in making sure I have been clear on what I am doing.
Workload daily has been continual and project have often run over the weeks, which is nice as I have not felt like I have been given any menial tasks or just admin things to keep me busy. There are also always things to be done if you feel like you don't have much to do, I always just asked.
I have been allocated tasks of various different project all of which have involved different aspects of surveying which has provided me with a good understanding of different parts of the job. It was nice to feel valued and see project through from start to finish and see work you have produced on a final report.
Having no prior training or degree in surveying but with an intention of following this into a postgraduate qualification this placement has been extremely beneficial in providing an good insight into the job and all that it entails, and I have really felt like I have got a good understanding of theoretical practices in reality.
The Company
everybody has been really friendly and approachable within the office and it has been nice to be treated like an equal by people in other teams as well as the one in which I was working as it made me feel like an valued member of the office not just the summer intern.
There was a four week schedule which laid out what we were doing each week for the duration of the scheme and this was nice as I was always aware of what I was doing. Also I had to complete a project and give a presentation at the end of my four weeks which also gave me more structure to my time.
As the scheme is only for four weeks there was minimal amount of opportunity for personal training and development however we were given a mid term review and a final week appraisal by the team which was helpful as it gave both the student and the mentors to discuss the placement.
The scheme is a stepping stone to the interview stage for the graduate scheme so is very relevant and gives you a good basis of what is expected of you at Savills and how they run their business. Obviously the graduate scheme is really competitive so its a really good scheme to have been a part of.
The Culture
there were no other summer scheme students in the same office as me.
as the placement was in a relatively small town the cost of living was very reasonable
n/a
I have been invited to two social activities throughout the four weeks.
