The Role
Great workplace environment, meaningful work and a steep learning curve
Everyone on site is approachable and will help you out or even come to you for help, can't stress enough how good the environment here is
Given a lot of support but also feel like my managers had a lot of faith in me - if I were to make a mistake or miss something it would have a real impact on the business but they let me work through the issues so I could learn but were still there to support when I asked
I was always very busy but no one expects you to stay beyond normal working hours and if I was getting overwhelmed the rest of my team were always happy to help me out. Even after finishing my core tasks each day there was an endless list of things I could be doing
A lot of responsibility. I had my own suppliers so if they had any issues/delays/were unable to support our orders I would need to find a solution to keep the line running. I was treated the same as planners who have been at the company for 15+ years with the (although I am sure they had a lot more on their desks and more difficult parts to deal with)
It's given me a huge boost in confidence and shown me how relevant people managing skills, organisation and having a proactive approach are
The Company
Great atmosphere, Cummins is like a big family. Very welcoming and people really want to share their knowledge and help you out
Jumped straight in and as I became more confident and competent in what I was doing I was given more and more so my workload has felt fairly consistent as I have become more efficient with the work I am doing
If you show you are keen and capable Cummins will invest and give you as many opportunities as possible on different courses and having taster days in different departments

I have a zero hours contract going through uni and will hopefully have a job following on from that when I have finished uni
The Culture
Great social scene, there are about 25 placement students at DEP so always a night out/day out planned
Darlington is a very affordable area to live
Interesting nightlife... lots of pubs and a couple of clubs
EEEC which is Cummins global volunteering initiative and a load of other projects/events for charity and the local community
