The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my work placement at Savills. It was great to gain a further understanding of Savills as a company and gain experience within different departments. I set myself a goal to meet as many people from different departments as possible which I have succeed with as I worked within my own team, an Auction Day and an additional team.
Initially due to there being a few people on work experience within my team which is only small, I felt as though I couldn't not show my skills to my team in the most effective way. However, when given a chance I was able to demonstrate to my team that I can work to a high level which then allowed me to feel valued by my team
Throughout the whole process if I have had an issue my team and other individuals in different departments have supported and guided me. Whenever I have had a query or question I have asked whoever appropriate and everyone I have spoken to has fully answered and if they are not able to they will point me in the direction of someone who can.
It varied on a day to day basis. When I first started I was not given many tasks however I feel that this might be due to the volume of people on work experience within my team. However when I raised this as an issue or not having much work to be getting on with I was given more work and on a day to day I was busier. Additionally when I worked within other departments with no one else on work experience I was given many tasks and was busier.
Initially I was not given very much responsibility, however as time went on and I had been within my team for longer I was given more and more responsibility and had to compile some reports on my own
All of the skills that I have gained have increased my knowledge and are transferrable, so with therefore assist me in my degree and studies beyond. I have enhanced my communication skills by emailing, speaking on the phone and face to face in meetings and in an office environment to both people within my team and clients Using different databases such as Moilor and LonRes have been added to my skill set. This is something that I will be able to carry forward with me.
The Company
The general atmosphere within my office was very upbeat and positive. This was therefore reflected in the work carried out. The team had a good mix and enjoyable atmosphere with all team members being extremely friendly. Overall very pleasurable workspace.
My work placement was extremely well organised from start to finish. It was very well explained and clear from when I initially applied for my internship right through to the final day. Whenever I needed to speak with anyone regarding my internship, people were always extremely accessible and would assist wherever possible. At one stage when I did have a query it was actioned and I was spoken to about it within the hour
I feel as though the company invested in me in terms of development and training to a good extent. During my internship I felt like a valued employee and was not given meaningless tasks but as though I was in an individuals job role.
Company Parties/Events
The future employment prospects within my organisation are very appealing. This is due to the fact I have enjoyed working for the company this year and also last year. I like the culture of the company and also feel as though if you are committed individual then you will be able to succeed to a high level, which is what I hope to do
The Culture
Yes there was a good social scene amongst the fellow interns. We met up[ on a regular basis. To begin with the company encouraged social vents which I found very beneficial and then as time went on we organised more social events which were all very enjoyable.
Due to working in London, the cost of living is higher than where I normally with. However, this is something that I had already taken into account. the only real cost that I incurred was travelling during the working hours, to and from sites and between offices. However, this is something that Savills have said they would cover
The nightlife around my work area is to high level. There are many places in which you can socialise which is great as it means you can have a relationship with your colleges out of the office environment. This is positive as it means that you can develop friendships too
Yes there were a couple of opportunities. These included summer social parties, cricket matches and the opportunity to play volley ball with my team
