IT intern Review

Wasn't challenging enough, they didn't have enough work for me to do. Networking is key to get more work if you want it. Each department is more than willing to show you what they do and give you advice on careers. My department was a bit dead for work though.

You'll start from the bottom and work yourself up once you're trusted. I received jobs that i didn't want to do (like with every job) and got trusted as the placement went on so i got given more responsibilities. Your work will help and impact the company not just your technical skills.

Support and guidance are there with work whenever you needed it. I was given 1-1 meetings with my mentor weekly and had more 1-1s if i needed them. I was always sat next to my mentor so if there was anything i needed i could ask. He was very approachable as are most people there.

Bored for most of the time. I constantly asked for more work and looked for more work myself so i wasn't bored or looking at my outlook for 6hours a day. There is only so many times you can ask for more work. However, you do need to be proactive in this company. But you also need to make sure you are getting everything out as you possibly can.

At the beginning it was very little responsibility as I was getting myself off on my feet, as i showed that i was able to do the little tasks then i was given more responsibility although this did take to my end of my placement to get bigger projects. It depends on which internship you get and whose your manager.

I got experience that i wouldn't get inside a classroom. Working in a professional environment, soft skills and learning professional etiquette were my main things that i will take away. I'm so glad I did the placement although i had my frustrations, it's a really good placement, and i'm privileged to have the experience

Always had team meetings and caught up with professional things that were going on, or just catching up on personal lives which was a nice feel as it was not just work work work. You are not micromanaged at all so there's no pressure in that way, you can just get on with your work and prioritize things as you wish.

My manager didn't have much work for me to do which is why I struggled. There was no plan really set up, it was just do whats needed and if there's nothing to do be proactive and clean up your departments cupboard or look busy. Would've like more structure to it.

There was no personal training as such or development, only soft skills that you learn along the way with the job. My manager was supportive on anything i wanted to do or get involved with and helped me develop my soft skills and how to act around in a professional environment.

I would not want to work for this company again, although an amazing company and experience i had with them, Chichester isn't the location i'd like to live in and I don't like how each company is very much to themselves and won't help each other unless they have to.

Chichester is very bad for a social scene. There is an intern group of about 60 interns who set up a Whatsapp group and FB group and have weekly meetings to organise events and go to the races with together. There is also one club called Vestry where you are able to meet other people. I recommend having a car.

Very average, I did need to drive quite a bit as i lived in a village just outside Chichester but everywhere is quite close together. And wont need a car if you're in the centre. Socialising on thursdays at the vestry as they have a 241 deal on drinks and stuff. And there's always people going out on fridays to the pub after work.

Already mentioned this, there are a good few decent pubs which you'd be introduced to very quickly as you start. There isn't much varitey in the night if you keep going out every weekend. The ques to get into Vestry are very big if you dont get there early so you can easily call the night over at 11.30 if you dont get in.

If you know the right people yes, you can easily start up a club or social group outside of work. The intern group is a good group to get yourself stuck in as they will always be going to the pub or doing a few events; festival of speed or the races etc.
