About You
I found the placement very interesting and I thought it gave me a good insight into the day to day role of surveyors. The other employees were very friendly and I greatly enjoyed getting to know them during the time of my placement. I also found the work I undertook enjoyable.
I felt valued by the company as they were comfortable giving me my own pieces of work to complete from the first week of my placement.
I received a lot of support. If I was having any trouble with my summer project or a piece of work I was doing for another staff member they were very willing to help when I asked a question. I also felt that the staff members were very appreciative of the work I completed for them.
I believe the placement has improved my communication skills as I have spent a lot of time speaking to other members of staff and clients.
The Company
The structure was good but it could have been improved with a few more individual tasks, which would have helped to develop time management and organisational skills giving a better perspective of the job qualified surveyors undertake. This could maybe involve a second report to be written on the basis of research and a site visit.
The atmosphere in the office was very friendly and all the members of staff made you feel welcome. This was nice because it made the emplacement very enjoyable as it felt like the other staff members were happy that you were there and appreciative of the work that you completed.
I felt that the company was invested in helping to develop my skills relevant to the job.
The placement was very useful in understanding the tasks undertaken day to day by surveyors. Having experienced the role for a month and enjoyed the varied work that I have completed during the placement, I am more confident that surveying is a career that I want to pursue in the future.
The insight greatly helped me to understand the company culture. The number of social events that I attended were particularly useful in understanding the company culture that I found to be professional but at the same time friendly. I found that the staff all got on well and enjoyed each others company.
The placement has been very useful in helping me decide my future career path. Before the placement I was unsure if surveying was a career that I wanted to pursue but having undertaken a month in the role and greatly enjoyed the work I have completed I am confident that surveying is a career path that I would want to pursue.
Everything Else
I felt that the pay for the placement was fair for the work that I undertook.
The opportunities for networking and meeting other employees in the company or firm were very good. I attended multiple away days as well as going to lunch / drinks with staff members within my office which helped me to get to know staff members better and improve my network within the company.
The social event oppurtunities were excellent. For one social event I attended a conference at Newbury Racecourse which was attended by all the offices in the southern region. This was very useful as it enabled me to interact with other employees not in my particular office and furthered my knowledge of company workings.
I did not find out very much about what activities that employees can get involved in outside work.
I would recommend this placement to a friend if they thought that surveying was a possible career path for them.
