The Role
Overall, I've really enjoyed my placement at Hams Hall. I developed many skills and gained confidence in my ability to tackle challenges in the future. The work environment is very friendly and I've met many people throughout Hams Hall and also within the wider organisation. This placement has provided me an excellent overview of various processes and operations within a manufacturing environment which will certainly help me in my future career.
I felt very valued by both my Manager and my supervisor. I was entrusted with more tasks as the placement year progressed. I was entrusted to manage and deal with problems which made me feel like a valuable part of the team. The Project team also highly valued my work which motivated me to continue working hard throughout the placement.
When required, I was given the necessary support from my team. I was able to ask any questions I had. My manager and supverisor were very experienced and provided me the correct guidance. I have adopted many skills by working with them. I believe at times I could have received more guidance.
My workload varied as I was working mainly working with projects. However, overall I was fairly busy and I was able to find tasks for myself at times when I was not as busy. I enjoyed being busy and I've developed my time management skills. I often helped with one-off tasks which was interesting and allowed for a varied workload.
I was slowly given more responsibility throughout my placement. This was excellent as it allowed me to gain knowledge of the systems and processes before being given the responsibility of the various tasks. Half way through my placement, I was able to run the Project meeting myself. I was able to show that I was capable of managing various responsibilities independently which has boosted my self-confidence.
I strongly believe that many of the skills I've developed through my placement will assist me both academically and in my future career. For example, I have really learnt to communicate more effectively and improved my presentation skills. I have also frequently used Microsoft Excel where I have learnt new formulas which will aid me in my degree and in the future.
The Company
The atomsphere in my office was very friendly. People are very polite and are easy to talk to. Generally the office is quiet which is great when I had to focus on my work. Other colleagues often give out cake and chocolates to celebrate their birthdays. Overall, I felt welcome while working in the office.

Working from home
Future employment prospects within the organisation look bright. However, as an intern there is no internal options to continue working for the company. Interns are expected to apply as external candidates once the internship commences. However, I have made many useful contacts within the organisations who can help with future employment within the organisation.
The Culture
The cost of living various on the location you choose to live in. However, generally, it is cheap relative to London. Accommodation can be found at very reasonable prices. There is not many places to socialise around Hams Hall, however, there are many places you can socialise in at a reasonable cost in Birmingham city centre.
