Commericial Banking Intern Review

I really enjoyed my time on this internship. Working with a great team who were interested in finding out my areas of interest and maximising my experience in these areas. Everyone was very welcoming and kept me busy throughout the internship with work both valuable to me and to them

I was lucky enough to be placed with an amazing team, all very friendly which created a great atmosphere giving me the flexibility to perform at my best, not feel stressed or tied down to a strict timetable that didn't work for me. In my first week I was taken out for lunch which allowed me to get to know my colleagues well

My line manager was always available to offer help and support and give me work when I asked for it. When he was busy I felt I could ask for help or guidance from anyone else in the team and trusted they would provide me with this

What I loved about this internship was that you had you own targets and objectives which meant you always had work to do. On top of this you had the option to take on as much work as you wanted and get involved in various activities. This meant I could achieve my targets to a standard I felt happy with and keep myself busy doing lots of work to maximise my experiences and skill development

I felt I was given a reasonable amount of responsibility. I went out on a number of client meetings and was trusted to directly contact customers to follow up on these meetings. The tasks I was given were of value to those in my team which also made me feel I was trusted to complete these tasks to a good standard

I believe I learnt a huge amount on my internship. I got stuck in to tasks and client meetings from the offset developing my skills in a number of ways. I had a very limited knowledge of the banking sector going into this internship but felt I very quickly improved on this, learning a huge amount by getting as involved as I could

Very positive, my team were all very welcoming and friendly but also hard working which I found very motivating. The office was open so people could easily talk to one another. Employee led networks allowed you to meet people in other departments and I quickly got to met people across the office

I feel the internship was well organised. A 3 day induction training allowed me to meet fellow interns and get a solid overview of the weeks to come. There were set intern projects to go alongside the objectives set by my line manager so I always had a number of tasks to be working on

I was offered a number of different training courses throughout my internship, both optional and compulsory. I could sign up to these via the intranet when I was interested. The 3 day intern induction in Edinburgh was very useful and expenses were paid for by the company, it covered a wide range of topics both general to the company and specific to my department

I feel like this internship has helped me to form a future career plan for once I leave uni and I would love to be able to return to the organisation to start off my career. I have identified areas of the organisation I would aspire to work in in the future

I was in an office with only 3 other interns so the social scene was limited but the scheme often had 60+ interns in the city which would have provided a great social scene. Despite being 1 of 3 interns we did attend social events with the graduates which was good fun

The cost was manageable, I was a student in the area so already had accommodation sorted and knew the costs of the area. Other interns were new to the area but found accommodation and costs relatively easy to manage. You could minimise your expenditure by making pack lunches and either walking or getting season passes to get to work

Very good - Bristol is a great student city will a number of bars, pubs and clubs. Over the summer there are a number of events on weekends which were well worth attending. If in a new city I would recommend speaking to your colleagues or friends who know the area to find out about what you can do

There were as few yes, you just needed to look out for them. Emails would occasionally be sent around the office or opportunity were advertised on the Intranet. Having said this I didn't do a huge number of activities outside of work. I did attend a corporate breakfast and was invited to a local cricket match with clients but was unable to attend the latter
