The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here at Savills. The people in my team were incredibly welcoming and approachable. They introduced my into other teams that I don't feel that I would have experienced if it wasn't due to them. Everyone was positive making it a great place to work. I was able to go to various social events like: cricket, team drinks and summer scheme networking events which has allowed to get to know some brilliant people that I hope to keep in contact with.
I like to think that they valued me. They continually provided me with work to carry out both with my mentor and individually, to which they seemed happy with the work I produced. As they were all very encouraging it made it easy for me to ask them for more work when I were near completing the last piece.
Both my mentor and my line manager were happy to give up a lot of their time to teach and inform me throughout this whole process. Going back to university in October will be a lot easier with the knowledge that I have learnt from them which I hope to apply to my studies.
The team provided my with work the whole time that I have been here. I think that being a cognate university student has given me the basic understanding making me competent enough to carry out tasks. I have also had the benefit of working with other teams showing what their role is and how it differs from my team that I am in.
I believe that I was given an acceptable level of responsibility. I was able to go to site meetings and talking to clients on a regular basis as well as doing office based work. Towards the end of the placement I was able to construct pieces of work that would be checked briefly before being sent off to the client.
Being on this placement has increased my knowledge around the subject I study and has made sense of the thing you learn in a text book but never see. It has also made me develop to personal skills by putting me in the situation of not knowing anyone, forcing me to make new friends and network. Some of these will be joining my university next year so I hope to keep in contact.
The Company
Positive. Everyone came in a light hearted mood and a proactive approach to work. I think that it was good that the company wasn't overly corporate. I also liked how it a relaxed atmosphere in the sense and that there are no time sheets to fill at the end of the day, and no ties in the office.
Very well. If I had an issue it was never a problem for long as the HR team were very quick to respond with the relevant answers. The departmental overviews were all very informative about each individual specialism and always ran on time. I think they were also very good at providing the opportunities for all of us to get to know the other graduates/work experience.
I believe that it invested a lot into me in terms of time. They have given me the time of both my mentor and line manager providing me with the knowledge and tips for doing certain tasks. Also by putting on the lunch and learns that I have been to is also a good way for me to learn while I am here.
Company Parties/Events
Very appealing. Being here for a month has really given me a useful insight into the company that Savills is. I can categorically say that Savills would be a company that I would like to work for due to many reasons as stated above/previous questions. It is organised, professional and social. I hope that as a result of this placement it puts me in a favourable position.
The Culture
I think there was. The HR team organised a social of drinks at a local pub. It was also nice to have the departmental overviews to catch up with other people on the summer scheme. I think that it would have been more beneficial to all summer people to do an social activity instead of a pub as it would have encouraged more people that aren't interested in drinking.
I have been based in out of London so expensive. I have had to pick and choose when I go out and socialise from a cost perspective. I have been fortunate enough to be able to stay with friends else I would not have been able to afford it after traveling expenses.
Very good. There is also somewhere new to go for drinking and eating. Generally we stuck around the Oxford Street area. It also provided many opportunities to go and do activities like the cinema, bowling and shopping. The Oxford circus office is incredibly well connected with transport links making it great to meet friends outside of the company.
I'm sure that there are many opportunities but none that I can comment on. For me personally I get up early and come straight to work and leave late not leaving a lot of time. Most on my time outside of work is with friends or relaxing at the accommodation that I'm staying in.
