The Role
I enjoyed the chance to develop transferable skills in a FTSE 100 company - from presentation, agility and team work training whilst also given the opportunity to work on tasks that had a real and lasting impact on the company.
There was/ is such a positive atmosphere around the office and any work I did for anyone on my team small or big everyone was grateful for my contribution. I also felt like I genuinely helped my team out by doing tasks they shouldn't have to be doing.
My line manager was so supportive- arranging weekly meetings and also being available to answer any of my questions no matter how small. The office is open plan which helps sitting next to members of my team who were always willing to help me and never dismissive.
I was busy but not over stretched. I was given enough work to keep me occupied but never given too much work where I felt I couldn't cope. Mine line manager always kept up to date with my tasks so would know how much I could handle.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility which meant I felt I was actually contributing to the company and helping my team.
Having now graduated I feel like I have developed many transferable skills that will help me to continue potentially with the graduate scheme or any other further job- from presentation skills, collaboration, confidence, time-management. With the placement being 10 weeks I feel like I've had true experience in large company.
The Company
Everyone was friendly and there was always a good vibe in the office. After work we would play ping pong with people that weren't even on our teams and one day we helped organise a BBQ for the whole office. The fun never stopped!
You could tell the line managers were given clear guidelines and knew exactly how to manage us. The interns were given weekly updates about events we will be attending the following week. I felt very comfortable and looked after.
I felt like I was given a lot of training - we were given excel training and presentation training. For my role I got to travel to a different location and visit another office to receive training. There were also voluntary opportunities which I participated in as well. Really good.

After the internship you are given the opportunity to apply to the grad scheme and you are basically guaranteed it depending on how well you do. Therefore that gave me great motivation to really commit myself to my time with Centrica.
The Culture
The social scene is one of the best parts of the internship. We are put into free accommodation in a University with all the interns living in the same block of flats therefore we were given a great opportunity to bond and explore our location.
The area we lived in was fairly expensive but you just have to be smart and look for deals. We stayed at Royal Holloway university for free therefore saved so much money and places were walkable or a short uber journey away. I really enjoyed my time there.
The nightlife was hard to track down but there are a lot of clubs to explore some expensive some free entry but at least there were options. There was more of a pub culture which was just as fun and gives a better chance to speak and bond with interns.
There were many opportunities, especially chances to get involved with fundraising for CarersUK such as a charity run which I thought was really enjoyable and great that we could get stuck in and raise some money. Also there are gym classes one can attend, or table tennis- all good fun.
