The Role
I really enjoyed the whole placement, from living in Uni halls with all the other interns to working on real work that needed to be done by the team. I was given a few projects over the 10 weeks and gave me a great insight into what the Graduate scheme would be like/what it's like working in Finance.
As the work I was doing was work that someone else in the team would have to do, I felt they were very grateful I was there to help out and they in return provided me with lots of assistance. All other employees outside of my team were very friendly, we had meetings with lots of senior people including the CFO!
At the beginning of the internship we were given excel training which proved to be very useful. I was also shown through some of the software we used and was given the time to explore it. I found I could go to my line manager or ask any one of my team for help/advice.
This varied throughout the internship as I had a couple of deadlines, however I could have probably forced myself to actively seek more work and make sure I didn't leave the longer projects until the end. Some others on the internship seemed to have more work and some seemed to have less but I would say there weren't many days (if any) when I was sat around with nothing to do.
The work I had to complete was work that the team would have to cover themselves or pay a new full time member to complete so I would say the responsibility was relatively high but most of what I did was checked as I didn't have enough of the technical background so I was getting help anyway.
Some of the excel skills may help out a bit but I would say that the software skills were fairly stream specific and wouldn't help out with my degree. Personally I would say the soft skills I developed were pretty tailored to a corporate environment, and so was a good insight into what working life would be like beyond uni, but not particularly useful for my degree.
The Company
The atmosphere was a nice balance between hard working but relaxed. It was never high pressured and everyone was pretty chilled out but still expected work to be done to a good standard and at a quick pace.
Probably the most impressive part of the internship was how organised it was. The fact that they provide accommodation for us made it a lot less stressful. There were a variety of events put on that helped us develop and the support network was very good if you had a problem. There seemed to be so many people you could talk to if there was an issue!
There were a few events put on: a team building development day; a presentation training session; an excel training session. These were very helpful and I felt that they were willing to invest in us because they want us to do well and be interested in their graduate scheme.

Very appealing, if I get the graduate scheme it is very well run and would set me up for a very successful career. They have a big drive to make sure people, especially at the early stages of a career they promote moving around the company to get a good experience so you can develop and work your way up the "corporate ladder"
The Culture
Yes, the fact that we were in halls together we bonded more than you would likely do if you just worked and then went home. We had a variety of events that we organised. It helped we had the world cup to bond over too.
Compared to London it was cheap but equally if you wanted to go out then there isn't much in Egham (RHUL). However as we didn't have to pay for accommodation this made it considerably cheaper.
Not great in Egham but it wasn't hard to get a quick taxi over to Windsor where it was a lot better.
We were encouraged to do a lot of charity events, raising money and awareness for the charity.
