The Role
My internship was very enjoyable, it was a great opportunity to experience what it is like to work as an auditor. I was able to work on a number of clients in a short period of time, and able to complete different tasks that gave me a good understanding of the work that firms like this do on a regular basis.
As soon I started I felt instantly of value to my colleagues. Everyone was extremely welcoming and I felt part of the team as soon as I started. Throughout my time I was able to work with most of the team I was in, everyone was very supportive and encouraging.
My manager was in contact from day one. They were always approachable no matter the situation which was always helpful. Some work places have a vibe where managers are seen to be above most other employees, however here it is not like that and managers are very much a part of the team.
It varied over time. When starting work on a new client I would usually be given plenty to work on, however once I was finished this there sometimes not much else to do. Some work I would not have been able to do due to not having received proper training but this cannot be expected in 6 weeks. But overall I had work to do the majority of the time.
I was given more responsibility than I had first anticipated. At times I was given work that was solely my responsibility and also had the opportunity to be in communication with clients. Most responsibility came from having face to face interactions with clients on my own. This allowed me to show that I was comfortable doing so and had confidence in my ability.
I feel that having first hand experience working in audit will help me going into my final year at university. It has given me a broader understanding of how things work in accounting as a whole. I have also been able to further develop communication skills and teamwork which is vital going forward in any business environment.
The Company
The atmosphere was very friendly in the office, everyone was welcoming and would always talk. They operate a hot desk policy therefore you are able to sit next to the people that you are working on a job with which makes it easier to ask questions. Even if you were not able to sit next to your team you could ask anyone questions and they would be happy to answer.
It was fairly well organised. We had events in London to attend which were well organised and a great experience. Further the team I was working with had an schedule which was planned for our full 6 weeks so you know what client you'd be working on and where each week. At times the communication could have been better but this was not a major issue
We had the opportunity to attend training at the companies training centre just outside London which was a great experience. I never expected to do anything like that given the internship was only for 6 weeks however it shows that the company is investing in you and makes you feel valued.

From the beginning it was highlighted to all interns that if we performed well over our time there was a high chance that we would be offered a place on the graduate programme for next year. Therefore if you work hard in your time here and make an effort it is likely that you'll be offered a job.
The Culture
Yes, I have been to a number of socials since I started. From a boat cruise to bowling there regular social events to get involved in which allows you to get to know your colleagues/fellow interns even better.
I commuted to work so living costs I'm not sure about, however socialising is much like it is in any city centre. There are some cheaper options and some more expensive so it's up to you where to go.
Nightlife is good, there is plenty of restaurants and bars in walking distance from the office. Also a number of nightclubs if you fancy a boogie at the weekend.
There were some but not many as we were only here for a short period. However are plenty throughout the year for employees.
