The Role
Liked working within a team applying what I have learnt about at university to the industry. I was given responsibility without being swamped by it. I enjoyed having the ability to go and see the assets which we deal with instead of just theory. The actual work was often engaging requiring a lot of developing my way of thinking from uni like thinking to industry.
I felt like I was included by my colleagues and considered part of the team as opposed to someone whom they could go and get to make teas and coffees. In meetings they would listen to what I have to say and question my understanding in a way which was useful to me.
There was constant support without being over bearing. There was support for any kind of issue that I might have such as IT issues or issues with my work. Mainly my line manager was the main form of support. I would consistently ask relevant questions and I did not feel like I was a pain at any point.
Some days I was extremely busy and having to work extra hours and very hard, however I enjoyed this situation as I was enjoying the work and having to juggle my responsibilities. On the flip side there have been a couple of days when I have had far to little work for example having a couple of days to complete a document which was pretty much already finished and I was waiting for my line manager to come back from holiday to review.
For my engineering summer placement project between the other interns I was given a lot of responsibility as I was the project manager, it was good to have to manage a team and set out and stick to deadlines. In my project work I was given a fair bit of responsibility on the task I was doing.
I developed my writing skills , researching skills and communication. These will be useful skills for uni and life as it was good to use these skills within a commercial setting.
The Company
The atmosphere is good as you can go up to anyone and ask them whatever question you want and they always seem to make an effort to make time for you.
The organisation of the placement was very good with very little problems. From the day I started to now I've always had something to do and the equipment I need to do it or know how to go about getting something done. The accommodation being sorted was a very big bonus and it makes it easier living with other interns in the same situation as myself.
The company did invest in me sending me on a couple of training courses which were worthwhile such as catch and excel. I would have loved to go offshore, however due to the limited time I am here for I can see this not being a worthwhile investment due to the expensive training that would be required.

I would love to have the opportunity to come back and work for Centrica on their graduate programme. I would like to do the rotations and work within different areas of the company so I can increase my exposure and gain a new set of skills and experience.
The Culture
Yes due to the fact I was living with my fellow interns. There were a few opportunities for other social activities with other colleagues however due to the limited time I did not explore this fully.
The cost of living was cheap due to the fact I worked in hull up north and things are cheaper here. Also the fact accommodation was paid for was a very big help and a important factor to the 10 week period.
No idea really I don't think it matters too much but I 'am sure I will enjoy it once or twice whilst I 'am here.
Depends upon what you mean by opportunities, there are many clubs I could join there is a weekly 5K run on Saturdays. I also go swimming once a week and cycle to work each day and love to go for runs in the evenings.
