The Role
Was a good experience overall in terms of getting to know lots of people within the bank and also meeting other people my own age who are thinking of the same thing career wise. It was all very well organised and there were additional things put in place for the interns over the summer so that it wasn't all office work.
Everyone in my team was very welcoming and I've found the same to be true with other people in the bank in different departments.
Had weekly 1-1s with my line manager and there were weekly meetings so plenty of opportunity to give rise to any issues or questions if there were any.
My role didn't allow me to undertake many jobs due to permissions but I sat with many different people in the team and attended different meetings so that the majority of the time I had something to do. Also you are given a project and a charity challenge that you can work on when you haven't been set any work.
Wasn't given much responsibility apart from completing a few tasks for members in my team that I didn't feel were of major significance.
The internship won't give any help to the degree I am studying at university but will help in the future when applying to other jobs as I now have a better understanding of how the bank operates and the different roles which exist within the bank. Also, there were mandatory e-learning modules which also broadens your knowledge.
The Company
Everyone chats in their team and is very friendly.
Had a few issues the first couple of days when I was in the office with access to things like the intranet but apart from that everything was very well organised.
The bank ensures that all employees including interns complete mandatory e-learning modules. There are also many opportunities within the bank to attend talks and workshops which aren't necessarily bank related but can be applied to everyday life and work life.
At the end of the internship you are given the opportunity to be offered a place on the Grad scheme which is for 2 years with 4 rotations around different divisions of the bank.
The Culture
All the interns would arrange to meet up outwith work.
Internship was based in London so everything is more expensive.
Some good places but as in London more expensive
Given the opportunity to go on a community day and help out charities for one working day during the internship.
