The Role
It took several weeks to settle in and so by the time I felt I knew what I was doing I only had a week or two left. Everyone was very helpful if I had any problems, however my 'buddy' left after the first week and my people manager was away for a whole week which left me with no one in particular to go to with problems.
The whole team were very welcoming and I was given responsibilities by many different people and they were all happy to help with any queries.
For any problems I had my people manager was happy to help, however for a week she was away which l found difficult as I was still unsure of what I was doing and didn't know who to ask directly.
I was always kept busy with many tasks waiting for me. This was a good balance as it ave me a chance to understand what I was doing yet there were very few opportunities where I had nothing to do.
I felt at some points I was given too much responsibility for my abilities, however it did help my confidence in the work as it showed people were happy for me to do these tasks.
I learnt a lot about teamwork and how important communication with your colleagues is. I also developed my organisational skills as there were always several tasks for me to do at any time and I had to learn how to prioritise these to ensure the work was done efficiently and to the required standard.
The Company
Everyone in the office was friendly and outgoing and when the office was full the atmosphere was best. However there were several days when only a few people were in that the atmosphere dropped slightly. However, on the whole it was very enjoyable.
Unfortunately I did not get an opportunity to experience work in different sectors of the job despite having mentioned an interest in this several times. It was also badly organised from the point of view that I had no 'buddy' in place and my people manager was away for so long near the beginning.
Some time was given in the first few days to show me what to do and how everything worked, otherwise advice was only given when asked.
Healthcare/Dental
I have already been offered a full time graduate job which I have signed a contract for and will be taking up in september.
The Culture
I didn't spend any time with other placement students as there were no others in my department within the building I worked in.
I worked in London which was very expensive and I live very far from the office and so socialising was very rare.
I have no idea as I didn't have an opportunity to go out there.
There were no opportunities that I was aware of outside of the work place.
