The Role
Very enjoyable internship with insight into different parts of the business given, and everyone willing to have a chat with you about their roles. A lot of work to keep you occupied, and a great desire for feedback so that your workload is suitable yet challenging. Would definitely recommend to anyone with interests in the energy industry.
Colleagues were willing to give up some of their time to go through their work, and others from around the business were always willing to let you shadow them for a day. They were very friendly and approachable, and created a great atmosphere at work so that you looked forward to going in everyday.
There were different methods of feedback from a line manager to a graduate talent manager meaning you always had someone to go to if you had an issue. Managers were very upfront with feedback meaning that you could develop on those perceived weaknesses rather than wait for a review to be told them.
Very busy, which allowed me to keep myself motivated, and the working day went by very quickly. There was also lots of travel around the country which meant work being done on trains, but seeing parts of the country I had never seen before was worth the travel. Could ask for more or less to do, is fundamentally tailored to the individual.
Felt like a graduate from day one engaging with employees on the field, and giving them feedback which gave me a real sense of purpose and responsibility. Indeed, I often gave feedback to people twice my age which at first glance may seem intimidating but was really testament to the level of responsibility the interns are given.
There was training given on excel as well as presentation given by current employees so that no matter what area you were in you could develop those skills. Work was also partially based around areas you would like to develop, like mine which concerned handling data. This will very much help with my degree which is data based, and a greater understanding of data visualisation and manipulation will be useful.
The Company
The atmosphere was a great mix between serious when we needed to be but quite relaxed with everyone approachable and willing to have a little chat. The layout of the office also allowed for a great balance with modern décor, and sofas so that depending on the mood you were in you could adapt were you were working.
The structure was very organised with a dedicated graduate team sending weekly updates with pertinent information, and key dates. The company is very experienced at taking on interns so the managers many of whom were former interns were fully aware of what a great internship usually looks like. There were also develop days organised from the start so that there was a great mix in the internship.
The company was very responsive to areas I wanted to personally develop, and gave me some tasks revolving around that which allowed me to develop my skills to a level I was very impressed with. If there was an interest in another area I could easily email someone, and arrange a day to shadow them.

The employment prospects look very appealing with the company having the right attitude towards change and innovation so that it remains relevant in modern times. There is also an opportunity to work across the country, and travel is common which makes the employment in certain areas very appealing to myself.
The Culture
Colleagues were always arranging social events within their groups so that there was bonding outside of work with events ranging from a simple meal to football golf. There was also a great social scene among the interns given everyone was living together in the same accommodation. There were always events going on at the office in which people could get involved.
Cheap living given the accommodation was given for free to the biggest overhead was already covered, and it was conveniently near the office so you could drive or walk in everyday with ease. Socialising was relatively cheap for the area with SU facilities which were cheaper than normal private facilities in the area.
A lot to do in the evenings with Windsor a short train journey away which had great places to eat and hang out with everyone. Given how close we were to the train station it was always easy to go into London which has a great selection of things to do in your spare time.
There were lots of opportunities to get involved with activities outside of work with time set aside for charity work which everyone could get involved in. There were lots of socials outside of work people could come along to, as well as talks given by people in the industry allowing us to develop our understanding.
