The Role
My placement was really well organised and ensured that I had an interesting variety of work and was always kept busy. I was given opportunities to witness tasks that I would be involved in later in my career as well as day to day graduate tasks.
My colleagues really went out of their way to make sure that all of the interns settled in well. From bacon butty rounds to after work drinks, we were really made to feel at home. Colleagues were always grateful for the work that I did, even when it did take a bit longer than expected.
I was given a great deal of support by all of my colleagues. I always felt comfortable to ask questions and everyone was willing to take time to help with any work queries. I had the opportunity to work with people at all stages of their careers and was offered useful career advice whenever I asked for it.
Workload varied from day to day but that just added interest. Colleagues would always ask about your workload before giving me a big task and as long as I time managed effectively I always managed to leave the office on time.
I was responsible for managing my own workload and making sure that I asked for work if I had some spare time. Interns have to manage the intern project by themselves; arranging conference calls and delegating work etc. Opportunities such as sitting in on conference calls, taking minutes and attending meetings are allresponsibilities that I experienced as an Intern.
From my internship I learnt first hand which skills I need to develop and where I can improve. I also found that the transition from university to work will not be as intimidating as I first expected.
The Company
All of my colleagues were extremely professional but there was always a pleasant atmsophere and it was definitely the people that I worked with that made choosing Towers Watson as a graduate employer so easy.
My internship had been planned excellently to make sure I had the opportunity to experience as many different aspects of actuarial work as possible. All trips to London and Reigate were planned very well.
As a company Towers Watson invest entirely in making sure that it's employees reach their full potential. All travel and accommodation expenses were paid and graduates have a great study package when studying for their actuarial exams.
National Travel
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
I was offered a graduate job the first working day after I finished my placement.
The Culture
After work drinks were always an option on friday night and after the intern days in London and Reigate.
My accommodation allowance just about covered my living expenses for the 6 weeks.
There was always a different location for after work drinks.
There were charity events, parties, tripps to the cinema, bbqs to get involved in.
