The Role
I have found that the placement has been really enjoyable and fulfilling. The project I was working on was greatly suited to my interests and meant I continuously developed new skills.
Everyone at Siemens Mobility is very friendly and welcoming. Easy to interact and learn from, as the Siemens concept of learning relies on 70% learning from your environment, 20% from colleagues and 10% from formal sources. I have enjoyed learning from the other graduates, apprentices and interns.
Supplied informative inductions and starter guides to be able to understand the workplace environment better. Supervisors are easily in contact in case of any trouble and have 1-2-1's with them and a mentor to help develop your skills and decide on targets to get you to think about your career development
I was given work from the actual project I was working on within the first week and was working as a part of the team straight away. I found that I had lots to do and learn from as there was a perfect balance between the project, training and recreational periods.
I was assigned to a relatively new project that could later become a company product or would at least form the basis for possible products, which meant that the work had to be done to a high standard. However, I was working in a team and would still have my peers read over my work to see if we would all agree on the conclusions.
I believe that the coding skills I learnt were something that I had only just began before this internship at University and that working on this placement has meant that I have accelerated my learning in the work environment. I think that I now understand more what I would like to develop at University and would like to continue to learn as it will assist in the future of digitalization.
The Company
Very relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere with many good initiatives to meet new coworkers or to assist with enjoying your work. Things like dress down Fridays and office games help meet other people and keep a balance between work and play.
Very organised, I was supplied with my IT supplies almost immediately and was fully inducted into my project within the first week. They had good experience with training and development, and was organised very well.
I felt that there are many opportunities to develop skills and for personal training as they pay for courses that help for your targets that you agree on with your mentors and line managers. This meant that many of the costs for training were covered by the company, and were encouraged to get certifications.

Working from home
Very good return rate of interns coming back as graduates. Most graduates seem to enjoy coming back and working for Siemens as they have a good transition into the graduate scheme and flexibility with where you work.
The Culture
Lots of the other interns and graduates shared interests in sports and music and we would occasionally go out as a group to celebrate different occasions.
Living cost wasn't too bad, I moved to a short term apartment with a 1 hour bus ride away. I didn't mind the travel. But the cost may have been reduced if I had moved closer.
I hadn't gone out much but the area apparently had a lot of pubs.
There were many different sports events and community events to get involved in.
