The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my summer placement at Siemens Lincoln. Everyone in the Lincoln site are particularly friendly and always willing to help. My colleagues in the office I was working in were always there to help and were always willing to spend time with me to point me in the right direction if ever I was stuck.
I felt very valued by my colleagues while completing my summer placement at Siemens Lincoln. As I only completed a 12 week summer placement, I was primarily used to help out each of my colleagues with catching up on any work they had gotten behind with. This gave me great satisfaction when I was able to do some of their work for them to make their lives easier.
The support from management far exceeded my expectations. I expected the managers here to be far too busy and have no time to give me any help. I expected to feel like a bit of a nuisance being a placement. However, my manager, [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], had endless amounts of time for me. She wanted to help me develop as much as possible in the 12 week window that I had.
I would consider myself to have been very busy during my summer placement at Siemens Lincoln. I was given a different set of tasks each week which had deadlines of 1 week. This meant that each day I was striving to get these tasks completed to help my colleagues out.
I was given a great deal of responsibility. Each of my colleagues entrusted me with their work. The work that I was doing was of high importance. Not just a small portion of filing as you might expect during a placement. I had a number of mini projects where I had to present my findings to my colleagues who then presented these to their managers.
The skills that I have learned and developed during this placement include time management and communication. Both of these have been of high importance in successfully completing this placement. I hope to be able to use these skills and further develop them to help me achieve success in my degree and hopefully become a successful manager.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office I have been in, in the JRB in Siemens Lincoln is fantastic. Everyone has a superb work ethic, however, they are willing to give time to one another to help everyone get their tasks completed for deadline. This was particularly visible during month end periods.
The overall work placement I feel had a fantastic set up. My admiration for these placements is clear in the fact that I have returned for a second placement. The work is clearly all planned out before your arrival. The only issue I encountered is the length of time it takes to get your own laptop.
I haven't personally been invested in as such. However I am aware that there are a number of scholarships available to those who live near a siemens site. These have high ratings. I am hoping to get onto the graduate scheme here at Siemens upon successful completing of my degree which will be in June 2019.

As I have previously discussed, I am hoping to achieve a placement on the Siemens graduate program. I hope that having completed 2 summer placements within the organization will give me a fantastic opportunity to achieve a graduate position here. I have spoken to my manager and he has worked here for numerous years and rates Siemens as his best employer.
The Culture
The social scene among other placements and interns is good. There were two weekly football games for me to attend. We also made sure to keep in contact outside of work hours. We socialized in town on a Friday after work and also socialized during work hours on our lunch breaks.
N/A
The nightlife in Lincoln is not brilliant. However, with the university increasing in size I believe that the nightlife is improving. The number of clubs is steadily on the rise and there is an event to attend on most nights for students. So for those looking for a slightly quieter night out I would recommend Lincoln.
