The Role
I greatly enjoyed my time at Grant Thornton and would highly recommend it to anyone else.
Colleagues were more than happy to help me and took a lot of their time out to talk me through the processes needed for my work. I was also given the opportunity to witness the work of a partner which was a very enjoyable time and one which made me feel extremely valued.
Everyone was assigned a 'buddy' who was our main port of call for any help. My buddy was extremely patient and helpful in explaining any question that I had, whether small or big. We were also assigned a 'line manager' who we met every fortnight or so to discuss how things were going and whether we would like to get anything more out of our internship.
As soon as I realised that in order to be given work one has to actively demonstrate that you are free people were more than willing to give me work. This allowed me to complete a wide range of work for people throughout the department.
We were given the level of work of a first year associate. Whilst this does include a level of admin there wasn't an excessive amount. They also permitted me to go to many client meetings in order to gain a greater understanding of all parts of their work.
As part of the internship we were required to undertake a presentation training course. This greatly benefited me by giving me confidence and knowledge on how to make an effective presentation. These skills will greatly benefit me in the future and in my degree studies, where I am obliged to give multiple assessed presentations.
The Company
Everyone was very friendly and welcoming and interacted within themselves very nicely.
We were given a organiser which had every evening event and manager catch up all pre planned.
The firm is very keen on promoting development and aided me whilst providing me with opportunities to develop my studies by myself.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
The firm has aspirations to grow which will hopefully provide many internal opportunities for promotion.
The Culture
The interns were all very friendly and we all got on very well. Many evening drinks were organised within the interns and we always met up at lunch time to catch up.
The cost of living is inevitably expensive given it's location in the centre of London. However the attractiveness of the centre of London greatly outweighs the excessive prices that you have to pay.
Many pubs and bars in the area which are in a walking distance of the offices and then only a short train journey from the other night scenes in London.
We had opportunities to join 5 a side football which I will definitely look to get into when I start working.
