The Role
Although this is my first proper job, Siemens has been very welcoming from day 1 and I have been treated as a valuable addition to the department that I am currently working in. Surprisingly, I feel like I learnt more than I have at university!
Not an exaggeration when I say 10/10 but I've faced no prejudice whatsoever and my colleagues are always happy to help me out, I also learn a lot more from them! The dynamic overall is incredible and I was not expecting that from a huge company.
My manager checks up on me quite regularly regardless of how busy he is and we had one-to-one meetings once a month so he gets an overall update on how I'm doing and if I have any concerns.
8/10 because I had to learn a new programming language at the start and to also get used to how Siemens' products work. However, once that phase was over, there was plenty to do and I was given small tasks to complete. Overall, I was never dissatisfied with the work amount that I had.
None but in terms of what I was doing, that wasn't a bad thing since everyone had their own jobs to do and I was no different. I'd say my independent skills have enhanced much more and I was given a chance to really look into software a lot more than I would at university.
Hands down, I have learnt so much more over the summer than I have in 3 years at university! I'm genuinely glad I did this internship before graduation as I've developed more skills and a lot of the theory that I learnt at university makes more sense in a practical sense. The fact that my first job was at Siemens is mind-boggling but amazing at the same time and I'm grateful!
The Company
Obviously, you have be professional most of the time but my initial thought of the office being a place of nightmares with snobby colleagues is a complete contrast to what it really is! Everyone is friendly, cracking jokes here and there, it really is a comfortable environment! I don't think I woke up early and dreaded work!
I was given to the task to help develop software that can help customers when they are commissioning products that they have purchased from Siemens, and it was a very new idea so obviously I wasn't expecting a solid set up because it's very much down to experimenting but I'm glad I had that job. It's a lot better than sorting out paperwork!
The fact that I have experience in programming was seen as an advantage and the company really enhanced that because I could actually see how coding would be used in a variety of applications. I've started taking online courses in learning more programming languages as a result and I've developed an interest as well.

The only thing that holds me back is the location as I'm very much used to the city life and having a lot of facilities close to me however I would definitely apply for Siemens again after graduation, probably in Manchester, a similar position to what I'm doing now would be fab!
The Culture
As of now, I've barely seen other students as I'm the only one in my department plus the social scene of Congleton is not something that would attract students in general and I don't think that has anything to do with Siemens. However, I have been invited to have drinks at a colleague's leaving party and I'm really excited about that!
Very, very low. I rented a room for only £80 a week (including bills) and my landlord is really lovely! I also went to the local gym regularly for roughly £20 a month. Whatever I earned a month was more than enough to cover these costs, I'd recommend living out and learning to be independent in comparison to spending a ridiculous amount on commuting.
Again, that's down to how Congleton is in general. A lot of students in the past have gone to Manchester instead.
Not that I know of at the moment, but again that is because of the location itself.
