The Role
I was able to part take in active work within the business and apply what I have learnt at university to real life situations.
I was made to feel an equal and treat like I was a normal employee, I was never treated as a student on a placement which made it easier to settle into a routine. My colleagues are approachable whenever I have any questions or queries.
I was given support throughout my placement at Siemens, any questions or queries that were raised were either explained or dealt with there and then. Regular chats throughout my placement allowed me to raise any concerns and receive any feedback which was very useful for further improvement and progression.
Some days did vary depending on what stage of work I was at, but overall I always had some sort of work or task that I was able to get on with even when I was waiting for any work to be reviewed and comments to be returned.
I felt like I was given lots of responsibility throughout my placement even when shadowing and working alongside colleagues I was able to go off and complete any work necessary. I also spent a few days sharing the work I was completing with another student, this was beneficial as it helped highlight any parts which I was not too sure on,
My organisation skills have definitely improved throughout my internship as the work is very fast paced and there is deadlines to meet. I also spent a lot of time on AutoCAD which will aid me in my future studies and found it a really useful skill to have.
The Company
A very friendly atmosphere there is always someone there to chat to but is minimal so work can still continue. I found it to be a very comfortable atmosphere to be in.
I found that my internship was organised quite well with some improvements as expected. I always had work to do but when reviews were taking place there could possibly be something in place to fill that time more efficiently so it would be more beneficial to both myself and the company.
In the first few weeks of my placement I went through one on one training with one of the recruiters of the Power Academy which was an introduction to all the services at Siemens and how to use some of the applications. A follow up to that I completed several online training courses about the company and its progression, data protection, employee development etc.

Very appealing, there are so many opportunities and options that you are able to progress onto, you are not fixed in one department you have the flexibility to go into other departments and see if that suits you better.
The Culture
Yes, within the office we have a sports and social committee along with several other committees and several charity events throughout the year.
I was fortunate enough to be from the area so I was living at home during my placement.
There is always good nightlife in Newcastle and the area is well known for it. There is a mixture of different bars and clubs that fit everyone's taste, there is a bit of everything.
I part took in Total Warrior obstacle course with some of my colleagues from the office all in aid of MIND charity. There is always opportunities to get involved with including the summer party on a weekend.
