    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Thoroughly enjoying my placement. Enjoying getting to know my new team and learning lots of different skills along the way. The MyLearning felt like a bit of a drag at times, but now that's out of the way I can properly get stuck into the job.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Feel like I'm treated as an equal, which makes me feel really comfortable and gives me confidence to put forward my ideas and contribute to the team.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Even though they are always really busy they will take time out of their day to help me if needed. They have also given me jobs to do that I don't know how to do, but trying to work it out for myself has been a very good way of me learning my role independantly.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I am rather busy on a daily basis. There are some days where I don't have too much to do, but others where I am supervising contractors and am consequently very busy. I should imagine that now the E-Learning is out the way I shall become increasingly busy.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I feel as if I am given a lot of responsibility. This puts pressure on me, but that is the way I work best. I enjoy feeling like what I do isn't done by anyone else so it is worth wile me doing it.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • With relation to my degree, it won't really help me with my modules except for possibly accuracy and formality with writing lab reports. However the personal skills I have developed and the learning about different mechanical systems will/could come in handy in future employment.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It is a good atmosphere, people get along with each other with a constant slow mutter of noise. Which for me is nice because I personally wouldn't feel comfortable in a silent office as I wouldn't be able to speak and ask for help for fear of everyone listening to me. It also shows that everyone is happy working with each other when they are all talking together.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • So far it has been very well organised, the handover from the previous IP was very informative.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I feel like the company has invested a lot in me to learn new things as I did about a month of online learning covering about 200 modules. For which I was paid to be in work to do, but at that time I wasn't giving anything back to the company. But they wanted to make sure that I am as qualified as a proper employee.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am happy here and would consider future employment, however I don't know if it completely fits with what I am going to be studying when I go back to uni.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, however I have not participated in a lot of it because I like to go home at the weekends and don't really want to go out during the week.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living is not too bad, however I have chosen a more expensive option of a studio flat because I didn't want to live with people I didn't know.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not sure, I haven't experienced it yet. But there seem to be a lot of pubs.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes however as I have explained above I haven't taken advantage of them yet as I like to go home at the weekends.
