The Role
I have enjoyed my work placement immensely. I have already gained valuable skills, which are not only applicable within my job at the company but are useful in everyday life. I feel like my role is well suited to me and that the values of GSK align well with my values.
I feel as though my colleagues respected me, I was given a fair amount of work to do but was always offered help when I was given too much. My input was always valued and my managers were patient with me during the first month of training, which I appreciated.
I was given lots of support and guidance by my managers, from introductions to people on site, to how-to guides, I feel as though my managers prepared me well for the role . I was told my objectives and responsibilities early on and understood where I fit into the team.
I was not so busy that it infringed on my lunch hour or stressed me out, but I did not have a lot of time where I was sat around doing nothing. This, I believe is the right balance. If I had finished my tasks, I always had some other project to do.
I was given a lot of responsibility on my placement, and this happened quite soon into the role. I could always ask somebody for help though which I appreciated, as the large company which I worked for had a lot of rules and regulations, so it is best to have guidance from someone more experienced.
The skills I developed as part of my role aligned well with my degree studies, but would probably serve me best in the corporate world, rather than academia. This being said, I gained many transferable skills in my job which will help when I will return to university next year.
The Company
I worked in a hardworking office, where the atmosphere was not "fun" at all times. However the people in my office were helpful and friendly, and the atmosphere was conducive to light discussion and jokes but also hard work, I feel like this was a good balance. It helped to sit opposite IT also.
From the initial interview and assessment centre, I knew that the placement was set up well. It was organised and professional, with no errors in the recruitment process, and srg handled all of my information in a timely and professional manner. When I got to work, my objectives were communicated to me quickly and it was organised for my start.
I received a lot of on the job training and a two day induction which made me feel very welcome and invested in at gsk. In terms of development, I could choose which areas I wanted to focus in which I think will benefit me personally in the near future,
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Very, I would love to work for GSK again
The Culture
Yes, I have made many great friends.
The cost of living was high in Hertfordshire, socialising was expensive and the rent seemed extortionate. However, I am neutral about this because we received the London living wage which offset this financial burden nicely and left me feeling comfortable. My finances never stopped me from going out and socialising.
Not the best.
Not many within the small town where I lived.
